There are worse things.
Lots of folks here at DU are close with people who see life from a completely different POV.
Group hug to all who work to weather the storm... with love.

(694 posts)I doubt I would have turned him into a Democrat, but I do believe he would have "stayed home", so to speak.

(153,147 posts)it's not like the GOP became corrupt because of Donald Fucking Trump - they have SUCKED for a long, LONG time and I cannot respect people who are a part of that

(10,009 posts)Not a Trump voting Republican, but a Republican.
It can be challenging for sure. Lots of heated arguments. Still though, our marriage has lasted longer than many of my friends who thought they had married their soul mates.

(694 posts)Our arguments were kinda fun and the fact is...
If we all agreed, all of the time, we'd all be terribly bored!

A Bundy?
A Sovereign Citizen?
A Neo-nazi?
A Klansman?
I have a Republican father. It's not a "completely different POV". He believes flat out falsehoods. #1 is that Obama is Muslim. He's been brainwashed.
cbreezen
(694 posts)I think you know that.

(33,298 posts)There's differences of opinion (say, Marginal Tax rates should go up/down), and there's where we are now.
Where we are now is not OK.

The spectrum of light is amazing.
I've never heard such a wide spectrum of music.

(66,316 posts)Democrats until Trump is out of office, or the GOP otherwise reverts to its pre-Goldwater incarnation. So, either four years, or never.
Long-time DU-ers will recall my years-long effort to convince her of the GOP's fecklessness. An effort that yielded gold in 2008 when McCain, whom my wife admires, nominated Sarah Palin as his VP candidate. After a long, loud, and largely unprintable tirade against McCain, Palin, and the GOP, she voted for Obama/Biden. She spent the next eight years expressing admiration for Barack Obama, Michelle, and their two wonderful daughters. She voted Obama/Biden again in 2012 without a qualm.
After Trump slithered into the White House, she was plunged into a depression that she still hasn't fully recovered from.

(694 posts)It requires meditation and much reflection on my part.

(13,775 posts)her husband is a Trumpster. She told him that she made a big mistake voting for Trump. What does her husband of 27 years, do? He filed for divorce! She said his explanation for his divorcing is he could not be married to someone who didn't support Trump! I think there is more to this but you never know?

(22,976 posts)I say was, as he is very much still with us, and hes transforming. My parents were Eisenhower Republicans (my mom voted for JFK in 60), and he just followed along, I guess. Being the youngest, and the black sheep, I registered Democratic at 21 (no 18-year-old vote for my vintage) and never looked back.
His partner is a Democrat, and over the years, my brother is softening. Last year, his partner revealed to me secretly that my brother actually wrote in Bernie Sanders on his ballot in the GE (were in California, so his vote did no damage to Hillary).
I strongly suspect that hell be voting for Democrats from here on in. If you knew how STUBBORN my brother is, youd know that his transformation falls into the near-miracle category.
Screw Trumps teabagging neo-Confederate base, they are as unreachable as rocks. Its the centrist Republicans that Democrats should appeal to they do exist, and they are fed up.

(16,245 posts)But now Republicans and their voters are file, hate-filled assholes. Especially if they voted for that piece of filth Trump. It exposes them for who they really are.
When someone shows you who they really are (voting for Trump), believe them.
