Someone Defrauded My Checking Account....

...Got an email from my bank this morning telling me I was overdrawn on my account. So I went to check the balance online and found my checking account drained empty due to 2 checks being written by someone who's hand writing I don't recognize or to someone I know.

Bank Fraud Customer service reviewed my account while I was on the phone and said they will replace the funds by midnight and waive NSF funds on my account because I have never bounced a check or overdrawn in the 14 years I have been with them. I have filed a report with the local PD in hopes they can get to the bottom of this.

Tonight I am pissed.... I hope they catch the person... BASTARD.

They're not doing rsmith a favor. If rsmith claims fraud, the bank is required to replace the funds; they can investigate whether rsmith is bouncing checks and claiming fraud, but that's a separate issue.

Here's the very unfortunate truth about fraud of this kind: much of it is committed by family. The way banks deal is simple: they get the goods that the fraud was committed by the daughter/son, then they pose the dilemma to the parent (or whomever): we're going to charge kiddie with fraud and send them off to jail, OR you eat the loss. The parents always take the loss. Obviously, not saying this happened here.

Do you know how they got hold of two of your checks?

At least the bank covered the theft.

I'm glad they will replace the funds and waive the fees. I hope they catch the person too!!

My Husband had his identity stolen a few years ago,,,, they opened new accounts in his name,,,,
infuriating and time consuming.

Good Luck with this.

Have the police department check Mitt's tax returns, I'm guessing you'll find your money there.

No seriously, good luck catching that thief.

...them through those new automated ATM machines...coward didn't even present them to a teller.

I hate automation tonight....those machines have no way to do any verification.

You can print checks out at home or even order them online. It's not very secure at all.

My credit card number got stolen...AGAIN! It was stolen in March. Got charges reversed, and a new card. Now, the same card (the new number) was used again! This time fro $120. Last time it was $40. Oh well. Thankfully, It is my emergency card so the limit is very low.

Edit to add: So glad you also filed a report with the police. So few people are willing to do this.

The put a hold on the card immediately and have replaced funds taken.

Since they are required to replace the funds, that's all to their benefit. That it helps you out as well is, of course, nice.

Shopping in a foreign country would certainly be a red flag on accounts.
