Chad Everett Of CBS Medical Center Has Died at 75.... Dr. Joe Gannon

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chad Everett, the blue-eyed star of the 1970s TV series "Medical Center" who went on to appear in such films and TV shows as "Mulholland Drive" and "Melrose Place," has died. He was 75.

Everett's daughter, Katherine Thorp, said he died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles after a year-and-a-half-long battle with lung cancer.

Everett played sensitive doctor Joe Gannon for seven years on "Medical Center." The role earned him two Golden Globes and an Emmy nomination.


Chad did several telethons in Seattle. I had the pleasure one year being on his celebrity team as a teenager.

1. I remember that show

I was about 8 or 9 when it came out. I always remember the episode with Robert Reed changing his sex. Of course Dr. Joe Gannon did those operations too. And the lesbian nurse episode. I remember asking my mom what a lesbian was. She said a woman who likes other women. Oh.

It was considered quite shocking at the time. But "Medical Center" was a very popular show. My parents watched it as well. Godspeed to Dr. Gannon.
