... The reaction to the Saturday Night Massacre was so vehement that Nixon was forced, only a few days later, to appoint a new special prosecutor, Leon Jaworski ... This was in spite of the fact that Nixon had already won a second term, and thus would not ever face the electorate again.
The Nixon impeachment never went to the Senate because .. Goldwater .. told Nixon that when the expected House impeachment got to the Senate, the Senate would remove the president. Consequently, Nixon resigned. He was later pardoned by .. Ford, which likely cost Ford the 1976 election ...
... I expect .. Mueller will get convictions of a number of people who have been closely associated with Trump ...
Thereafter, I expect he will name Trump as an "unindicted co-conspirator." Manafort has already been indicted for conspiracy. A conspiracy is simply an agreement among two or more people to do something that is wrong and that at least one of them took affirmative acts to further the conspiracy ...

(9,696 posts)all trumpft needs to do is replace Mueller's boss Rosenstein. New boss will strangle investigation without firing Mueller.

(3,784 posts)...........is that I'm pretty sure the bulk of Mueller's investigation is already done. These things start with the bottom-feeders and then work their way up to the big fish at the top. If he's already talking about interviewing the guy at the VERY top, that mean's he's pretty much done. My guess is Mueller's got all his ducks in a row and can get indictments filed literally within hours of catching wind that he's about to be fired. You can't "strangle" an investigation that's basically already finished. The interview with the moron-in-chief is a mere formality. Mueller doesn't NEED his testimony to proceed. But like all good prosecutors, Mueller is going to go on a fishing expedition hoping to get the idiot to say something that will convict HIMSELF.
So I'm not worried about the investigation being "strangled." I'm pretty sure it's all but done already. I'm worried about it being shut down entirely.

(19,953 posts)is that Mueller can't/won't get Trump indicted directly. He will only be in a position to send his report to Congress. That's when you'll find out if you still have a Democracy.
MAYBE he could trigger (if he has the evidence) Trump to explode by indicting as much of his family as possible, but again, that is dependent on there being a few good Republicans willing to effectively sacrifice their careers by standing up for Democracy. There are none in the House and the ones in the Senate are either dying or running away.

(18,625 posts)Nothing Mueller could charge will make Trumps imbecile base turn on him so Republicans will continue to protect him to keep the base happy.
Trump could invite the Taliban to New York and let them start blowing things up and the Republicans would do nothing.
