Two State Attorney candidates duke it out. Both Dems.

You should pay attention to what they say. Even though they're Dems, they still have to appeal to Republicans to win. I'm hoping Ashton wins because dinosaur good ole boys in the State Attorney's office is what allows for the constitutionally wrong-minded social networks that control the area.

State-attorney candidates slug it out in debate at UCF

Retorted Ashton, until recently a veteran prosecutor in Lamar's office: "I doubt that the 12 men that I put on death row ... would agree."

Bruzual questioned the candidates about the controversial Trayvon Martin shooting in Sanford and the "stand your ground" law. The law allows the use of deadly force in response to a reasonable fear that death or great bodily injury is imminent. Lamar argued that Ashton "flip-flopped" on the topic, reeling back his strong opposition to the law after Republican candidate and Lamar supporter Joerg Jaeger left the race, leaving it to an open primary in August.

"Now he says he agrees to my position," Lamar said, indicating his belief that the law needs to be changed but not repealed. "Welcome to the right side of the argument, Jeff."

Ashton said the incumbent was taking his past remarks out of context, and he hadn't changed his stance. He said he was glad everyone can vote in the race, and that he believes Jaeger "got out of the race to help" Lamar.
