How is it that Mitt Romney can talk of his father being "born in Mexico"

Yet no one asks the obvious follow-up question?

"If, as you say, your father was born in Mexico, how could he have attempted to gain the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 1968? Didn't your father understand the Constitution?"

Is still a natural born American citizen, so long as the proper paperwork is filed.

It had already been researched for his previous Presidential run. I have no idea why they did it, but they certainly didn't have to.

the advent of the so-called "birtherism" against Barack Obama backfired during the 2008 election because of McCain (who was born in Panama and technically not even on the base - he was supposedly born off base)... And thus some realized "what's good for the goose is good for the gander" (thus the resolution for McCain). And the irony still exists today with Rmoney as long as the rethugs continue to twist into pretzels making up nonsensical definitions of what is "natural born".

We know that being the child of an American citizen = an American citizen and being born in the U.S. = an American citizen. But rethugs want to change the rules to fit their crazy birther rants against one person - the current President of the United States.

It only matters if one believes that President Obama was born in Kenya, which no sane person believes.

some other bizarre archaic bullshit that was the case when Obama was born and isn't anymore. At least that's how I saw it explained one time. It's a really bizarre and obscure technicality if it's true.

Which, if you had read the post you responded to you, you would have known, since I stated that no sane person would believe he was born in Kenya.

I'm wondering where you came up with the question about his mother not being a U.S. citizen.

Some admit Obama was born in Hawaii but claim the "natural born citizen" term refers only to those born in the US of US parents. Therefore Obama does not qualify because his father was a foreigner. When asked why Mittwit is not disqualified on the same grounds they cite the difference as that George Romney was a US citizen born abroad, not a foreigner born abroad like Barack Obama Sr. Therefore Rmoney is a NBC but not Obama.

Like the Founding Fathers thought it should turn on that fine distinction.

It's really just a search for a way to make the black guy disqualified. They'd be looking for another way if Barack Sr. had been an American.

mother would live in Hawaii for a year and a half after the birth she could get a hawaiian birth certificate. And that is how they got it in the newspaper as being born there.
