Everywhere Pence and Mother go they are shunned.

They have the honor and the privilege of representing our country at these Games and so far they have acted like classless dopes. I wish they'd stayed home.

I’m one of those who only watches skating during the Olympics, so I know I don’t understand the rules, BUT....Rippon was flawless! I was spellbound during his routine. How did Chan (the Canadian skater who fell several times) earn more points than he did?

As I say, I don't understand the technical aspects of the sport. Despite what the announcers are telling us, it all seems pretty subjective.

Nevertheless, it was beautiful. It was inspired. It was a young man giving it everything he has.

So the base value without quad jumps was much lower. The other two fell, but they still got points.

Feb 2018

It was talked about at one point where doing a high difficulty technique with a botched landing gets more points than the lower difficulty techniques. Rippon and some others left out their biggest jumps for team competition.

He should have gotten at least 2nd place though due to how close his technical score was to that Russian guy. The artistic portion of the score should have easily put him up. It doesn't really matter with how the team points system had placed them, but still... c'mon.

Chan fell down once and touched the ice another time. I turned it off after that.

ICE skating is way to subjective and staged.

I was trying to think of a comparison - the closest I could come to was the two and three point shots in basketball. Giving the same score for two different jumps would be like allowing only two points for a shot from half court.

he lost points for being overly sequins-ed, but I thought he paid more attention to the music than the Russian and Italian - and he didn't actually fall down, which gets points in my world.

That's my problem with judged events - it often comes down to the judges' prejudices (and I say this as someone who has spent a lot of time assisting county fair judges - in the end, it comes down to "I like this one better&quot
