Mitt distancing himself from Ann's horse--doesn't even know when it will be competing...

In an interview in London, Mitt Romney "expressed ignorance about when a horse owned by his wife, Ann Romney, would be participating in the Olympic sport called dressage," Reuters reports.

Said Romney: "I have to tell you. This is Ann's sport. I'm not even sure which day the sport goes on. She will get the chance to see it, I will not be watching the event. I hope her horse does well."

Andrew Sullivan: "This is either a fib, designed to insulate him from whatever minimal fallout there is from owning a dressage horse; or it's true and he's just unlike other human beings."

The guy simply can't tell the truth about anything!

Did you get to see Jon Stewart's moment of Zen from about a month ago?
it featured Mitt introducing his daughter-in-law and grand kids at some political events. He seemed so uncomfortable doing it, like "Well, this is my, uh-h-h, daughter-in-law, yeah that's the ticket. And my grandchildren are here too. And they are like, um, my, uh what would you call it? My family?"

Gotta wonder who tailors his suits, that the windup knob on his back is covered up so perfectly.

The Romneys investment in dressage is as much emotional as it is financial. The Romneys have long shared a fondness of horses -- the news website Gawker obtained tape of Romney speaking lovingly about the animals with Sean Hannity in an off-air exchange, praising the bloodlines of his wife's Austrian Warmbloods, but also noting his preference for the "smoother gait" of his own Missouri foxtrotter.

Braddick said the Romneys were regulars at dressage events and traveled to Europe together to purchase horses for their California stables. When Ebeling was preparing a dressage routine to try and qualify for this year's World Cup, one of the sport's major annual events, Braddick said it was Mitt Romney who selected the music that would accompany the horse and rider's performance -- selections from the soundtracks to "Rainman" and "The Mission."

Back in the 70's he invested in a herd of cows as a tax write-off. He never saw the cows, probably never ate one of them, and not quite sure exactly where they were, but he could claim he was a "rancher" and take the tax benefits.

This prancing pony schtick smacks of the same thing. They have said it was to help the little woman with her disease, but I just need to know this: is she riding the beast in the Olympics? Does she ride the thing for training? Or does she rest on her divan in her well-appointed sitting room and admire pictures of the horse, taken by someone else, with someone else in the saddle and someone else mucking out the stalls?

Now I don't actually begrudge the wealthy and their ways. It's their money and they can spend it (or not) as they please (no, not to buy elections). But what I do object to is total lack of compassion or understanding of people who DON'T have the extra scratch to spend on dancing animals and thinking THAT is qualification to be President of the United States. Take for example, Ted Kennedy -- obviously a very wealthy man from a very wealthy family yet he was at the forefront of health care reform. He wrote 7/17/09 in Newsweek: "But quality care shouldn't depend on your financial resources, or the type of job you have, or the medical condition you face. Every American should be able to get the same treatment that U.S. senators are entitled to. This is the cause of my life." Just WHAT is the cause of Romney's life? Dancing horses? Five houses in five states? A car elevator? Tithing to his church? What, if any CAUSE has Romney worked on, defended, supported?

I gotta quit -- it pisses me off.

because she likes the sport, just like someone who likes rowing supports a US rowing team, or fencing or whatever.

Her horses are organized as a business but they are actually very active in the industry. She and her trainer buy, train and re-sell a lot of horses and she has a legitimate business going.

I'm sure however that she doesn't muck the stalls.
