be indicted by a Special Prosecutor? If said prosecutor happens to find evidence of illegal foreign campaign contributions?
Asking for a friend.
And wouldn't that be delicious! This housecleaning process needs to go deep.

(52,178 posts)other than that, i'm not aware of any special protections they have from prosecution.
they do have limited protection from arrest, as i noted in another post.

(6,709 posts)anything they say on the floor of the House /Senate. If their "crime" is not related to their floor speech or debate, they have no immunity. So, illegal campaign contributions, bribery, corruption, conspiracy, etc are all fair game, even against sitting congresscritters.

(52,178 posts)however, they can be arrested elsewhere, or when congress is not in session.
and they can be indicted and convicted.
the house and the senate both have procedures to remove members, and it has happened a few times.
but if they don't, in theory, it's possible to have a sitting congress person in prison.

(15,077 posts)I think they're recessed right now, aren't they?
Mueller is playing three dimensional chess and they are playing Go Fish.
I guess the only thing that keeps me sane these days is the hope that Mueller has his ducks in a very precise row, leading through the Capitol and right into the Oval Office.

(52,178 posts)as least the senate usually gavels-in and immediately gavels-out once every three days, to prevent presidents from making temporary appointments without senate say-so. even though donnie's of the same party as the ones who control the senate, senate republicans still want a say in such matters.
don't know if the house does the same thing.
in any event, a congressperson is only protected from arrest to/from/in congress, so when they're home or out campaigning, arrest is fair game.

(15,077 posts)I know that Mitchy was always careful to keep the Senate "in session" during Obama's Presidency. Probably still true. McConnell is a crook, but he ain't completely stupid.
