"ONE BIG SALES PITCH FOR MORE GUNS"
I guess we are now going to have armed guards armed teachers, armed principals
armed Janitors, armed office workers in schools.

(4,429 posts)Out of control student (no guns) who is yelling and needs to be removed, perhaps s/he tips over a table or chair, but isn't going to kill students or teachers.
Just your ordinary out of control (perhaps special needs?) student who needs different services and perhaps a more contained classroom) or a medication adjustment
.........is now met with a student resource officer who has a gun.
I wonder. What will the outcome be?

(15,805 posts)Instead if arming the English Lit teacher and expecting her to become Rambo, why not hit the root of the problem, the gun owner?
Before anyone can own a gun let's put onerous restrictions on buying and maintaining them. If people want to own a gun, they must attend an all-day class on safety, laws and usage, pass a written test plus achieve at least 95% accuracy during a shooting-range test. Then, if they pass, they have to pass a mental-health evaluation, a drug test, and pass an extensive background check, all of which they pay for out of pocket before they can get a license to purchase a gun.
Also limit what type of gun they own and how much ammunition they can have on hand. Require a gun safe and proof of liability insurance (just like for a car). Make licensing renewals every few years that also include passing a drug test and a shooting-range test.
