people with a documented history or diagnosis of mental illness. Of course, it's hard to argue that anyone who would do that sort of thing is a normal, stable person; but it seems like most of them have personality disorders which are not necessarily classified as mental illnesses, that is, psychosis or other serious psychological disorders. In any case - most people who are mentally ill are not dangerous, and most people who commit mass murders are not mentally ill, or have not been diagnosed as such. So that's a diversion. Yes, we should do a lot more to help mentally ill people, but they aren't why we have so many mass shootings.

School safety is another diversion. Turning schools into fortresses with armed teachers and even armed custodians is ridiculous. If your kid has to go through a metal detector and a body scan and a pat-down and taking off their shoes and a bag search just to get to their second-grade class, that's just crazy, not to mention crazy expensive, and hardly conducive to learning. I couldn't imagine trying to work on my seventh-grade science project about amoebas with an armed guard standing behind me. And what part of the school will be guarded? The parking lot and the athletic fields along with the building itself? Won't that need a fence, a guard tower and gun turrets?

And what about all the other public spaces that get shot up on a regular basis? Will going to the mall or the movies or a music festival or church also be like going through airport security?

WHY DON'T WE JUST KEEP IT SIMPLE AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT GUNS?

they relaxed the laws so that the mentally ill can buy guns, it's like the GOP has a death wish for all Americans. Too far fetched??? I do NOT trust this regime at all.

If they can get gun control advocates arguing about minor stuff like magazine size, background check details and a whole host of such things, the gun control advocates will not be a unified group.

I see divisive trolling doing this on FB. I suspect it is an organized effort of the NRA. The English is reasonable in the posts.

I have been busy trolling those trolls with some amusing results. I don't want to see people fooled into arguing when they are very close to agreeing.

There are only 3 factors in a shooting death.

Shooter + Gun w/ammo + Victim.

You have to remove all of one of these to ensure no more shootings. Reducing any one of these or all three will only reduce the number of shootings. For instance magazines and fire rates changes only reduce the casualties.

I think it will be difficult to reduce the Gun factor to zero, but we can damn well try. Stay focused.

I hope I am making sense, I was angry most of the day and it is tiring.

On TV right now.

Mass shooting
School shooting
Mental health
Military style weapons

How about night club shootings, movie shootings, concert shootings, suicides, robberies, accidents ... ?
We could discuss each and every one as a separate issue from now until eternity and accomplish nothing.

I'm angry again.

Why can't it be SHOOTERS + GUNS + VICTIMS ?

NRA got the Republicans to cut CDC funding to track this stuff, so we don't know where we could take quick and efficient action.

I think there will be a stiff drink and some mindless TV entertainment in my immediate future. I need a break.

we can make schools impenetrable fortresses, and the terrorist will just wait for his fellow students to show up at the theater friday night to shoot them.
