An interesting article that appeared in yesterdays print New York Post, but somehow hasnt made its way online, details a major GOP donors ties to the Penn State sex scandal. The story, written by Carl Campanile, noted Lance Shaner, who gave the maximum donation of $2,500 to the Romney campaign and $100,000 to Mr. Romneys super PAC Restore Our Future, served on the board of convicted child molester and retired Penn State football coach Jerry Sanduskys charity, Second Mile. Mr. Shaner also donated $155,550 to Republican Pennsylvania Tom Corbetts gubernatorial campaign and the Pennsylvania Republican Party headquarters was named after him. snip
According to the Post, Mr. Shaner declined to comment on their story, but Romney backers in Pennsylvania defended him.
Lance is a terrific guy. I dont see any connection with Sandusky, Pennsylvania Republican Party Chairman Rob Gleason said.

Just because he was on the board of the charity does not mean he knew anything and probably didn't. What about all the other board members of the charity? None of them seem to be getting any press.
To me this kind of smacks of Bachman's Uma Abadin accusations. I think there are enough degrees of separation between Shaner and the scandal that it is a bit unseemly to target him for this kind of press for what seems to be contributing big bucks to Rmoney and other GOP candidates. Seriously, every GOP business person is busy buying GOP politicians so his donations don't seem odd to me.
I will eat crow as I should when and if it comes out he was involved. But right now that's a pretty big "if."

(13,992 posts)Unless something surfaces that shows Shaner was somehow culpable for Sandusky's actions, he's an otherwise decent human being (you know, for a Republican) who got caught up in the scandal.
