"Gun-splainers"

They look for any technical wedge to sound all "experty".
Don't let them stump you.

______

No votes to NRA politicians for starters.

Ban weapons of war and then heavily regulate limited capacity handguns and hunting rifles.
No "grandfather clause". They must be turned in or face severe penalties.

And they can be a very mocking bunch as evidenced by replies to my ignorance in technical terminology.

I guess I should just shut my "fucking" mouth?

Otherwise it's easy to dismiss you and your concerns. If you really, really want to play a role in setting policy, I strongly urge you and others to learn about firearms. It doesn't mean you have to buy one, shoot one or touch one. But understanding them will go a long way toward doing something that gets results, rather than just blowing off emotions. But if that's all you're aiming to do, then by all means keep at it, and don't be surprised when people who are otherwise your allies stop taking you seriously.

Gun fetishists get excited by any opportunity to talk about their guns.

It's like the guy who starts sending you penis pictures just because you had coffee with him once.

Gun fetishes are disgusting.

I choose not to encourage them.

GOP: An AR-15 isn't even an automatic weapon. You can't regulate from a position of ignorance.

They never have been. They never will be. Knowing the correct nomenclature is not a requirement to pass laws. I do not expect non-owners to know the terminology. It doesn't matter. They know that firearms are dangerous to them and their children. That is all they need to know.

Blasting people for not knowing words does nothing to advance your cause. It just makes you annoying.

I know the terminology. I'm not emotional. I want serious firearms controls, beginning with ending the sales of semi-auto rifles with unlimited magazine capacity. That it's possible to insert a 100-round magazine in your AR-15 style weapon is absolutely ridiculous for any purpose whatsoever. It should not be possible to insert any magazine with a capacity of more than 15 rounds, in my opinion.

That's what I think. You're not going to be able to dismiss what I think on technical terms.

Our legislators don't need to know the technical details, either. You might think they need that, but they don't. Keep on insisting if you like, but they'll do what gets them votes anyhow. We're working to elect those who will do what we want, not what frightened gun owners want.

Lots of people are scared of firearms. I'm not. I'm scared of some of the assholes who own them a helluva lot more. They know the terminology, too. Screw that.

If these same people who go after precise language regarding guns think that people who don't understand proper automatic transmission operating temps should go learn that before they talk about automobile safety?

For some, firearms are more than a hobby. They love them. They caress them and know the names of all their little parts. They study them. They subscribe to magazines about them and buy books. They're fanatical about them, and don't care about people who aren't as into them as they are.

Like other fanatics, they try to belittle people who don't like their precious toys. I know about firearms, because I was always around them. I even used to do some reloading, because it was very technical and sort of fun to do. That knowledge has been completely useless to me. I still have it, but don't care about it.

I'm still annoyed when firearms fanatics use their knowledge to belittle those who don't particularly like or don't care about firearms. It's a very common thing to see whenever firearms are discussed. I don't play that game with such people. I criticize their fanatical insistence that only fanatics can discuss the issues.

I'm not afraid of firearms. I'm afraid of some of the assholes who own them. The rest are just folks with a hobby.

Guns are tightly regulated in the UK.

There was one mass school shooting in the UK - 1996, Dunbane, Scotland.

After this, handguns were banned.

There has only been one mass shooting in the UK since then. Not at a school.

UK doesn't have a gun problem.

Would you say that only automotive engineers are allowed to want catalytic converters to reduce air pollution? Nobody but a chemist/nutritionist should demand that canned goods are heated to a high minimum temperature for a minimum amount of time so they don't get food poisoning? How about nobody has the right to care about airplane safety if they can't write a short essay on Bernoulli's principle?

Insisting on expertise on guns from someone who doesn't want people to be shot by them is at best a smug and transparent deflection. It is also parroting reichwing nonsense.

I'm not going to tell anyone they are wrong for wanting any type, part, or gun banned or for using the incorrect terminology or any other such stuff.

I am anti-gun right up until I take one out of my safe for work and am anti-gun after I return it to the safe. I will be at upcoming marches for life in my town and will be with my daughter should there be any gun related protests at her school.

Get rid of them all I say. It will make aspects of my job much easier.

If anyone has a question about anything gun related, feel free to ask, but I am not interjecting anything into a discussion on them.
