If that's so, how come so many of them are bigoted assholes? Go figure.

(146,286 posts)Big-ass Ford F-250 4WD Diesel crewcab pick-em-up truck, parked straddling the line and taking up four parking places, because he had also pulled it about a third of the way into the spots in front of the two spots he needed to, you know, "protect his vehicle." NRA sticker proudly stuck to his rear window. Nice family guy, I'm certain...
Last week, a coal roller was pumping black smoke like crazy from his truckbed, using a fucking pipe to belch it.
That truck ought to be seized by the police and ordered destroyed immediately. Coal rollers fucking pollute and he needs to choke and die of pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.

(3,784 posts)Inform him that there are only a couple of examples of societies where everyone walks/walked around armed:
1. The Old West--was there ever any gun violence in the Wild West?
2. The L.A. street gangs--they never shoot each other, do they?
The fact of the matter is that the last thing you want when you're in a fit of rage and not thinking clearly is easy access to a weapon. There's gotta be some buffer in there that allows your brain to engage and overrule your temper. Otherwise there's going to be people getting mad in the grocery store line and shooting a little old lady who wants to pay with a check. Because if I find myself insanely hungry, and I've got a sandwich in my pocket, I'm going to eat.
P.S. If that talking point were true, why did the NRA ban guns from the venue where they held their annual Klan Rally last year? Even THEY don't believe their own bullshit.

(11,730 posts)I am a firearm owner and I have never said or though that.
Conservatives have shown through many of their actions and sayings, that externalized power is the only force they respond to. In my opinion, they have little to no internal restraint (I.E. moral, spiritual, or ethical underpinnings). To them, the fear of force appears to be the mechanism by which order is kept. Hence the saying.
