Jim Carrey paints image of bloody schoolgirl on American flag in response to Florida school shooting

Jim Carrey, who has recently put his work in Hollywood on hold to focus on painting, shared an original piece on Twitter Sunday in response to the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, on Feb. 14. And the painting is drawing mixed reactions.

The painting depicts a seemingly dead schoolgirl sprawled out on the America flag soaked in blood. Her bloodied school supplies, as well as footprints are sprawled all around her.

“Yeah, I think no one can really escape that aspect of life at this moment – the feeling of loss of control,” he said. “I’ve given up control in a lot of ways, and kind of the idea of self in general, but I still tweet and draw political cartoons and play the part of Arjuna who has to fight the battle in Bhagavad Gita.

"It’s not a battle I want to fight, but you’ve got to play the part. Every day at some point there’s pretty much a peaceful acceptance of what’s going on in my life right now, but I also tune in to the Republican – what could I call on it? – war on logic, intelligence and compassion at least once a day.”

3. Graphic. And true. The cleansing of the scenes of massacres by AR15's is a large reason why

they keep happening.

What are Americans afraid of? Seeing graphic gun violence? Turn on your TV's and movies...Americans can handle the truth.

5. These scenes are routinely scrubbed by the media

School shootings, dead soldiers and the like are not seen by the majority. It was what turned the tide in Vietnam, which those in power clearly remember. The people are thus disconnected from the real consequences of such policies on human beings.

7. Wow, he is pretty good

Reminds me of what you might see in a graphic novel. The first thing that came to mind was the style used by the creators of Rick and Morty.

8. I have nothing against this, but Canada has their own problems with murder...

it doesn't get as much attention as it should but they have a major situation going on up there with indigenous women being killed. (This is basically a "let he who is without sin...comment".

16. I don't know if you know this, but

Jim Carrey is a US citizen now.

That's terrible about the injustice of the Colten Boushie murder case.

18. No, I guess I always think of him as Canadian.

I listen to a lot of CBC radio, and this is a serious, serious problem up there. I hear story after story, and it's like hearing women crying in the wilderness; it's so sad.

10. Waiting for the inevitable hand-wringing

From people more offended by a drawing or depiction of violence than actual, real life violence.

11. New tweet says hes fading into the everything for a while.

It’s conjecture but I wonder if some of the horrible responses to this one made him pull back.

Rubio‘s agenda is clear. Keep taking millions from the NRA and wash the blood of innocent children off his hands. Apparently $3.3 million is the price of this politician’s soul.

Rick Gates pleads GUILTY to CONSPIRACY AGAINST THE UNITED STATES. It’s real! The Trump campaign was CRIMINAL!

I’m dumping my @facebook stock and deleting my page because @facebook profited from Russian interference in our elections and they’re still not doing enough to stop it. I encourage all other investors who care about our future to do the same. #unfriendfacebook

13. It's interesting that Carrey sees himself as Prince Arjuna

It is to Arjuna that Krishna directed the famous line, repeated by Oppenheimer at Trinity, "I am become death, destroyer of worlds."

15. And then Lord Krishna let Arjuna see him.

Arjuna was a pascifist forced to engage in battle by duty and tutored by Lord Krishna.

Carey is a transcendant being willing to engage in this absurd battle foisted upon us by willful ignorance and greed.

Carey had true greatness inside of him. I'm glad the world is finally seeing it.
