A political-action committee says former Vice President Dan Quayle "harassed" a contributor after it ran a TV ad ridiculing Quayle's son, U.S. Rep. Ben Quayle.
However, the Quayle campaign countered that the donor in question is a Quayle supporter who was unaware that the super PAC had attacked a candidate he backs.
The younger Quayle is in a tough primary battle against fellow freshman Republican U.S. Rep. David Schweikert in Arizona's new 6th Congressional District.
Nelson Warfield, a political consultant for the pro-Schweikert National Horizon, said the ad prompted Dan Quayle to contact donor C. Boyden Gray, who was White House counsel in President George H.W. Bush's administration. Dan Quayle was Bush's running mate in 1988 and 1992.
