Pictures of the insanely expensive, mahogany furniture that has Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson in hot water have emerged online, as CNN gave taxpayers the chance to see how well their $31,000 furnishes an office.
The custom table and pedestals racked up $4,000, the sideboard cost $13,579, the breakfront was priced at roughly $7,000, and the 10 chairs put an over $10,000 dent in the departments wallet. All of the furniture, which can be seen below, was purchased for use in Carsons office space and will arrive in May 2018:

When speaking to CNN, Evelyn Sebree the owner of HUDs Maryland furniture store of choice, Sebree and Associates described the buyers by saying they wanted a really large table.
They said they were looking for dining furniture for the secretarys office because a new secretary was coming in and the current furniture was old and it was raggedy, said Sebree who continued by denying any personal connection to Carson. I have never met them. Never ever ever.

(61,694 posts)Isn't it something that Jesus is much smaller in the picture? Either he's smaller, or standing eight feet behind him and he has really long arms. Jesus has big hands, though.
Big big hands, this monstrosity is supposed to actually be in his home, I found
another picture of Ben's favorite dessert, they can have at his new table...

His task could be a vignette for an over bloated inept politician.

(11,911 posts)My MIL had it made in Lancaster, PA. It's a big ass, heavy thing. About 15 yrs ago, it cost them $9K with 20 chairs. My hubby is the kid who "inherited" it when they moved to FL because it would fit in our normal sized dining room (10x14). When we have a big family dinner, we can expand it through the dining room doorway out into the foyer by our front door.
IMO, Carson could have had it for free -- or at least a hefty discount from what he paid for his. Don't think hubby would have let me though.

(1,387 posts)Who supplies the food ? Cafeteria or other onsite vendor ? Takeout ? A personal chef ? Carson's wife ? Who pays ? Will waitstaff be hired ?
Citizens demand answers !

(22,061 posts)And ugly to boot. I'm guessing this is used for a conference room. I'm sure very nice conference room furniture would be much more reasonable.
Don't spend my money on that crap.
