Utah Tea Party activist Greg Peterson accused of multiple rapes

Life sentence possible » In two cases, Gregory N. Peterson is suspected of taking victims to a cabin in Heber.

A Republican activist is accused of raping four women — two of whom say they were taken to the cabin where the man hosted major political events.

Gregory Nathan Peterson, 37, of Orem, was charged Wednesday 3rd District Court in Salt Lake City with 23 felony counts, including rape and kidnapping, and two misdemeanors. He was booked into the Salt Lake County jail and remained there Thursday in lieu of $750,000 bail.

Charging documents allege sexual assaults against four women in Salt Lake County beginning March 26, 2011. In the first case, the documents allege, Peterson met a woman at a church function and she agreed to go to a movie with him.

But instead of going to a theater, the papers allege, Peterson told the woman he had a gun and took her to his cabin in Heber. The documents allege he sexually assaulted the woman while she said no and hit her when she did not do as he wished. Peterson drove the woman back to her vehicle the next morning.

Who has the power to quash a story like this?

Anyone know?

I'm really sick that national news has turned from being news about things that are noteworthy on a national level to just being the biggest local news stories from around the country. I hadn't heard of this story before, but I also don't know why I should have.

since it is not to the interest of corporate interests. Or will see very little, so they can go, SEE we did give it some air.

It strikes me as this is one of those. And yes, editorial decisions are made all the time.

Because that means we can't trust Chris Matthews, Rev. Al Sharpton, Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes, or even Lawrence O'Donnell to tell us the truth about anything then.

They are all just reading off a script someone hands them when they all get to work.

It is all an illusion.

I could go on.

I just came home from a hazmat incident at a somewhat local Home Depot. You'd think a HAZMAT incident with the full store evacuated, and closed for the day, while injuries were minor and essentially AMA'ed at scene, would have full press coverage, this fits the if it bleeds it leads right? Wrong... we literally had one stringer and me, that's it. Part of it, end of the month. Nobody has money for this crap.

Mind you if the same incident happened at the Home Depot near my home... it would be leading the evening news... where it is, and resources and well, it is in a section of town that "matters."

Now got a story to write, and photos to edit... no ducky yellow suits though, DARN!

But this is seriously partly what is wrong with our media... and why a lot of this needs to start changing. And there is where CITIZEN journalism will have to put pressure.

That said, I prefer to watch MSNBC over CNN, and will watch Current over the rest. Why? The editorial decisions made.

All these "liberal" MSNBC hosts had to do was report what Utah media was already reporting.

Doesn't take much resources to do that.

23 felonies » Current charges allege Greg Peterson date-raped four other women.

By Nate Carlisle and aaron falk

Three more women have come forward and accused GOP activist Gregory Nathan Peterson of sexually assaulting them, a sheriff said Friday.

Wasatch County Sheriff Todd Bonner said two women have given interviews to his detectives saying Peterson — who was already accused of date raping four women he met in Salt Lake County — kidnapped and sexually assaulted them. A third woman has made an allegation but has not yet decided whether she wants to provide a full report and cooperate with detectives, Bonner said.

"My understanding is [the allegations are] pretty similar to the others," Bonner said.

Peterson, Bonner said, met the women "outside of Wasatch County and he brings them to his cabin in the Heber area."

Bonner said detectives have sent information to the Wasatch County attorney to consider charges. No new charges had been filed as of Friday afternoon.

Find yourself a local outlet like the East County Magazine. We literally do this on shoe strings, no serious.

Tweets from a 14 year old looking for her grandmother (who wasn't missing) gets reported on by the tabloids and the mainstream media picks it up and run with it. Yet the crimes that you posted barely get a mention. That should tell you something right there.
