Michelle Obama on Olympics: British "know what they're doing"
snip...
This is Michelle Obama's first Olympics, but she's been around the international scene long enough to know a loaded question when she hears one.
Asked by CBS News how she thinks the preparations have gone, she replied, "Oh, my goodness, the United Kingdom, they've had a phenomenal year. I mean, they've pulled off a major wedding, a Diamond Jubilee and now, the Olympics. They know what they're doing.
"So we're just excited to be here," Mrs. Obama said.
"And I am just honored to be able to represent the United States. I mean, truly that's what this is all about. It's about these athletes and the stories that they tell. The inspiration that they transmit to the rest of the world, particularly kids in our country."
Mrs. Obama pointed out that the Olympics present a great opportunity to get kids to see the value in staying in shape and eating right.

(12,754 posts)It's Politics 101.
Especially with his Olympic experience, Romney should have been able to knock this one out of the park. All he had to say was that everything looked fantastic and he knew from experience how hard it must have been, how the organizers outdid themselves, and how all the tens of thousands of people working so hard behind the scenes won't get the recognition they so richly deserve.
Then, STFU. smile, and wave.
The fact that he fucked it up at every turn tells you what a train wreck a Romney presidency would be. It would make us long for the good old days of Dubya. (not)

(19,458 posts)I just don't think he can praise. I was involved with a narcissist for many years, and they cannot say good things about someone or something, if it might mean (in their sad little mind,) that it would cause comparison to what they did.
This is very much like cookie-gate, very similar. His schtick is putting things down, tearing people down. His comments about "England" from his book were extremely insulting and condescending.

(17,193 posts)... gift-wrapped and with a bow on it, all that does is raise the question why Mr Romney didn't have the script handed to him. It's not too hard to make nice with people, if you really want to.

(6,829 posts)and he still screwed it up. Completely and thoroughly. It was gift-wrapped and handed to him, and he blew it. Completely and thoroughly. That's a special kind of obtuse.

(10,252 posts)Moreover, Obama is one lucky fella to have Michele as a wife and Romney, the awkward flip-flopper, as an opponent. That Michele, she's one classy lady!
