As schools across the country go into lockdown over threats,

what happens to education? Wherever you are, you're likely to have a nearby school that has shut down recently over some social media threat. The school gets locked down for a day, and then has to deal with scared kids and parents long after the threat is over or has been dismissed.

We've had such things happen steadily here in the Twin Cities, MN. Typically, the day following such a lockdown is taken up with counseling and other such non-educational activities. The fear? Well, how that goes depends on the individual students and parents.

How do you educate students who are afraid they might die in a hail of bullets?

Where will this go? Anyone can cause a school to get shut down, simply by posting a threat. And people are doing just that. Will this continue? Will it start all over again the next time there is a school shooting? And when will that next shooting occur.

We are in danger of making our schools fortresses instead of centers for learning.

require a 2/3 vote in Congress followed by ratification by 3/4 of the states. That's why there have been only 27 amendments, and only one amendment repealed, in over 200 years. What has to happen is that the gun-humpers recognize that reasonable restrictions on gun ownership are, in fact, constitutional per the Supreme Court in the Heller case.

far more serious. I read a Facebook post yesterday from someone who suggested just going completely to online schools for all grades, and shut the physical schools down to solve the gun violence problem.

As stupid as that sounds, the gunners probably would like the idea. As long as they can keep their "Precious," who gives a damn about education?

This problem is going to continue to get worse as time passes, I'm sure. We need to deal with it in a decisive way, once and for all.

my beautiful kindergarten aged granddaughter was over and I kept picturing her being shot, bullets tearing through her small arms and chest. It was a nightmare thought and eventually I was able to block it out. Every time I read or hear of another shooter on the loose at a school, it recurs.

This madness must stop.

right now. Because of television coverage, every parent with a child in school has to face this ugliness. Worse, the number of copycat threats and the seriousness with which they are being taken is driving the point home over and over again.

It's an untenable situation, to say the least. And there will be another school shooting before long. It's inevitable, given what is going on. This horrible cycle will continue.

Yes, I'm sure others are as frightened and upset as I am. No where to run, no where to hide. Fucking goddamned guns.

threats in the first three days of this week. and those are just the ones I heard about. I cannot imagine what parents and students and school staffs are going through.
