To start getting into silly things like costs of goods is playing their game. The point is that these tariffs will start a trade war that we will all lose from.

The cost of steel is only the first casualty in a trade war.

There will other casualties as they retaliate.

Such is the nature of any kind of war. The total casualty count is rarely considered when starting it.

A can of beer? These tariffs might cause beer to be 1/2 of 1 penny more expensive. Guns, a few cents. Even anew car, a hundred or two dollars.

The argument here we should be making is that the EU is going to slap tariffs back on us and we will be less competitive because of it.

This is the start of horrible horrible things for our country if we don't change direction.

Actually, you're on the money. As Flint (and other communities) replace the old lead supply line into old houses with something else (copper? plastic?), the old line could be harvested for recycling into other products. Batteries, fishing weights, bullets. I'm not sure if the old lines are removed, or just left in place and bypassed by the new lines.
