Rachel Maddow Surges To Become The #1 Show On Cable TV
Younger viewers were already flocking to Maddow, but the total viewership on Thursday was at O’Reilly Factor levels. Fox News has been concerned since they showed O’Reilly the door that Maddow would take the top rated spot on cable news. It’s the reason why they moved Hannity to 9 PM. Fox News is desperate to slow down Maddow’s momentum because their branding and identity are tied to being number one.
Rachel Maddow’s show is unique on cable news, and that uniqueness, plus her willingness to dive deep into the Russia scandal has turned made The Rachel Maddow Show a force to be reckoned with. https://www.politicususa.com/2018/03/02/rachel-maddow-surges-become-1-show-cable-tv.html

1. yep.
Rachel Maddow’s show is unique on cable news, and that uniqueness, plus her willingness to dive deep into the Russia scandal has turned made The Rachel Maddow Show a force to be reckoned with.
..and in the beginning, she was made fun of, and ridiculed. The too cool for school folks were busy being distracted or conned to dismiss the ongoing TREASON story. So glad she stuck with it. |

5. She is just great.
I hated that they made her wear low-cut V-necks when she clearly was uncomfortable with that. But she forged on and has once again proven herself as a great news person. And got some ratings so she has a little more power. Kudos to her.

She may just like them.

9. Really
She looked very uncomfortable in that attire. Watch the first couple months of her show. Someone was going with the Fox sexy girl thing that Rachel really didn't like but it got her from radio to TV. I just found it distressing that it still goes on. It really did happen.

10. I have watched since she was on KO
I don't think she would do something she didn't want to do and I don't think she is uncomfortable.
Personally, I dress in a sexy manner sometimes. I don't do it for anyone else...I do it because I like it. I just don't think Rachel is a victim. If she changed how she was dressing, it's most likely because she wanted to. |

11. Seriously, if you can find a few episodes of her earliest shows.
She was clearly uncomfortable. She didn't do it because she wanted to. She got a good gig by switching from radio to TV but didn't dress that way by her own design. She has gotten OK with it now but for the first couple months she HATED it. I'm just saying because I saw it.

34. Well, that was then. Now, I notice, the only concession she's made to on-camera appearance is
in the eye makeup. She's never tarted up. But I think they give her false eyelashes and/or extra mascara or something. I find it rather pretty - especially in its simplicity, since it's so clear that she uses minimal makeup for camera. No facial contouring, no loudly colored or heavy lipstick, no precision lip-liner or highlighter or dark eye shadow or eyeliner or any of that other stuff. She's naturally attractive so she really doesn't need it. But I have to admit - I do like the eyelashes!
Compare Rachel's nightly on-camera makeup to any photo of Hope Hicks, for example. I rest my case. |

35. I like her style
I am here to tell you the news, not wear a lot of makeup I just like that she says I am going to do my job
. Fake eyelashes or not. She has won. |

2. I love her show
She painstakingly goes through the facts and ties them up with a pretty bow.
She would have been a great attorney. I do admit that sometimes...I've just had enough and can't watch because this whole thing can be so depressing. |

3. I take nothing away from the talented Maddow...
but I do think this underscores the utter, sheer desperation on the part of most Americans for news and hope that Trump might be closer to impeachment/removal.
Rachel is very good, but she is also predictably going to expand on the stories beyond the headlines and that is frequently (though not always) very reassuring. |

12. I stopped watching Rachel before the election when she constantly talked about Trump
I swear it was almost all the time. Admittedly it was all negative but it was boring. I felt she was promoting him in a back handed manner.
Then after the election, she seemed to find her muse. I caught a show here and there and noticed it was interesting and detailed. Then I got addicted to her. She breaks down complex issues while telling a story. It's still kind of mostly about Trump but how can it NOT be about Trump? He is the biggest danger to our democracy since WWII. So, in the end, Rachel really is worth watching. |

Thats why it's my favorite cable news program.

19. Sean Hannity's program was the most watched for the fifth consecutive month, beating Rachel Maddow
The prime-time lineup of Fox News shows also dominated the ratings.
Sean Hannity's program was the most watched for the fifth consecutive month, beating Rachel Maddow in the 9 p.m. ET time slot. Hannity's audience for February 2018 averaged 3.3 million. Hannity also won the 25-54 age demographic favored by advertisers. https://www.bizjournals.com/bizwomen/news/latest-news/2018/03/fox-tops-february-cable-newsratings.html?page=all |

22. Both you and the author of the OP linked article are correct. One is month, one is day
Jason Easley posted stats for one day. It's a little premature to call Maddow and MSNBC #1 based on one day, but its an interesting stat.

25. Yes, indeed
It is great that Maddow won the day but important to remember that Hannity's show still is generally doing better.
It is amazing to watch bits of both shows and recognize that this country exists in two completely disparate alternative universes. |

I worry sometimes that the painstaking ways she approaches things may turn off people addicted to soundbite news. Mind you, it's 100% necessary but people have such short attention spans these days.

36. Great news, but why have they eliminated repeats of her show?
It used to be repeated twice late night, but the second has been replaced with yet another showing of Brian Williams - and her Friday night show used to be repeated at 6am on Saturday mornings, but now that isn't on, either.
