"I mean this sincerely, I really do, to all of the generations before us, we sincerely accept your apology. We appreciate that you are willing to let us rebuild the world that you fucked up." - Cameron Kasky (right) #NeverAgain MSD
Video within, with David Hogg speaking wisdom too.
Parkland students David Hogg and Cameraon Kasky made an appearance on this Friday's Real Time with Bill Maher to discuss their new advocacy group, Never Again MSD and their push to get some reasonable gun control passed. They had a message for Donald Trump as well in response to his phony baloney reality show staged "listening session" at the White House as well. - Crooks and Liars
I absolutely worship the tenacity of these teenagers.

I am so relieved to see this vigor, this commitment and ferocity, not to mention creativity, eloquence, moral authority.
They are AMAZING. And while I'm really, truly sorry for what they had to go through, if it brings on the kind of change -- not just with guns but with every blasted thing else -- then those 17 truly will not have died in vain, but rather as martyrs to the cause of saving the world, starting right her in the U.S.

(36,745 posts)Never underestimate the propensity for humans to fuck things up even more. They will fuck up just like the rest of us, probably worse.
I also resent them taking a shit on past generations, way to make friends there boys. I didnt give you a fucking apology, and you sure as shit arent gonna get one now.

That's not your cynicism talking, it's your life experience.

(5,126 posts)The collective "we" as past generations of all political or non-political affiliations have made progress in a lot of areas. The collective "we" has also sucked in a lot of areas as to tending the Country that we are handing down to the next generations. Those of us on this board may have been fighting against many of the things that the collective "we" is more responsible for, like the gun culture, global warming, environmental neglect, massive governmental debt, militarized police, endless wars, etc. But from their current and limited perspective, why didn't we as the left do better? Why wasn't our messaging or strategy better? Why have the boomers and Gen X collectively not been able to do better?
Don't take it personal. These are our kids that we need to nurture and not resent.

(7,411 posts)They sound every bit like the Baby Boomers they so eagerly alienate. Same stuff that was said in the 1960s.

They make every bit of my Gen X being cringe.

(7,411 posts)My grandparents experienced the Depression then fought WWII. They came home and reaped all the benefits of the Post-War Boom.
My parents' peers fought Vietnam while their siblings protested. They're classic Baby Boomers.
I was born in the '60s and grew up with all the Gen X hallmarks, latchkey kid, high school during the Reagan Era, et cetera. That means the war my peers fought was Desert Storm.
These kids from south Florida are the age of my nieces and nephews, kids born to parents far older than in preceding generations. I would think their parents are Gen Xers.

(36,745 posts)I am leading edge Gen X at 1965. But there is no hard set end or start, of course. Many of those my age have the boomer mentality. Gen X is strong in those born in the 1970s. My sister is very hard core Gen X.

(5,126 posts)If you do the math, 14-18 year old kids are ours. (As a fellow GenX) I see the kids from Parkland as being empowered and refusing to be victimized. They embody the Obama message of "Yes we can".

(36,745 posts)Dont expect to show an attitude like that one and get my support. I support reasonable gun control, but Kasky can go take a leap.
