That seems to be where the country is headed. Virginia appears to be headed solid blue for President, North Carolina is purple, Florida is purple. If we keep our blue states and pick up the purple states that are trending blue, then get Texas, republican Presidential candidates will have a hard time winning, period.

Florida is almost gone for them in the Presidential race, look at what happen since 2000:
2000: Bush with controversy
2004: Bush
2008: Obama
2012: Obama
2016: Trump barely

I think Clinton won Florida in 92 and 96, but I could be wrong about one.

Russia stole FL for drumpf in 2016, just like it did with PA, WI and MI. That's what people aren't factoring in. If Russia hacks the roles and tilts the vote for r's by eliminating D's, it ensures rw (russia) dominance. 2 states previously solid blue were suspiciously won by 1.7%, switch those 2 states to D and Dems win. If Russia isn't stopped, we are fucked forever, this is getting close to a total catastrophe and it's totally planned by Putin, Drumpf, 'Ryan and McConnell.

Presidents matter but not as much as Governor’s and legislatures who control elections and can make life miserable or better for millions; see Abbott in Texas, Brownback in KS, Christie in NJ, Snyder in MI, Scott in Florida, etc. etc.

A few years ago I asked someone who knows this stuff why sitting and safe Senators would leave safe seats in Washington to run for governor? “Because as a Governor he has real power. He can make things happen vs. being a one-of-many Senators and little seniority.”

Perhaps voting for Governor (and state legislators) is more important than voting for president.

The GOP is maxed out. They are expiring faster than they are recruiting.
60% of new voters are Dem, and it looks like more teens are registering to vote as soon as they can.

Republicans with Orange Julius are already trying to destroy Social Security, which is only one of many issues that's going to undermine their ability to get enough votes for them. Add their tax scam, trade wars, loss of health care, deficit skyrocketing for the wealthy's windfall, war, and the list is getting longer on a daily basis that's bad for all of us. Its happening in many places in this country now. The corruption and lying is also going to turn many away from them.

Texas turning blue is something I will "believe when I see it" but heading in the right direction I hope.

They had some stat on MTP this morning that 35% of the electorate there is Hispanic but only 20% of the 2016 votes were cast by Hispanics. Again it all comes down to GOTV.

It is possible that it's because his "un-Christian ways" have finally crossed some threshold.

Or because pastors in Texas have turned on him. They may see the writing on the wall & already be shifting their loyalty to uber-conservative-Christian Mike Pence. Or some other fire-and-brimstone replacement.

If you happen to be from Texas, you know that Dallas and Houston are surrounded by spawling white-collar suburbs and they are not happy with today's GOP.
