(26,044 posts)...back when you could still find them up here. Anyway, I had one bottle left unopened when I got news of his death, so I decided to open it as a memorial. When I pulled the cork, it crumbled away. Apparently, it had dried out and let air in. Still drinkable, but not as good as it could have been.
And, while I agree that he would have been in his element now, I'm just as glad he missed it. It's not unlike with my late mother I'm relieved that she passed away knowing Obama was president and thinking that things were getting better.

(3,941 posts)Would love to hear Bartcop's take on today's goings on. I still have a "Worst President Ever" t-shirt that I got from him. It has GWB's picture on it and obviously, it needs to be updated. RIP.

(7,220 posts)RIP old friend.
I found DU through Hated.com
visited a number of sites from there, cannot remember if Bartcop was one of them. Remember Media Whores Online, Liberal Oasis, DU and maybe a few more. I remember one that was black with red lettering, but cannot remember the name. Liberal Oasis had a bunch of links too, organized by topic. It was from there that I went to the Baghdad Burning blog.

(13,081 posts)And I couldnt get mad at him, because not only was he correct, his response was both surgical in its wording and completely hilarious (plus he was kind enough to roast me anonymously)
I was a daily reader for years; he introduced me to Chinaco Anejo.
He made a more important introduction on his blog, in the Spring of 2001, with a link that said something to the effect of Theres this new website trying to compete with Free Republic. Its excellent and you should check it out.

(15,124 posts)found DU due to Bart's recommendation. His intelligence, matter-of-fact courage, empathy and wit formed a muscular brand of "liberal" that kept a lot of us sort of sane.

(507 posts)I think he was the first political humor/comment site I signed onto on the internet, recommended by a friend. I don't remember for sure, but I suspect I also found DU at Bartcop. (Don't let the small number of posts fool you - I've been at DU since the EarlG Top Ten Conservative Idiots days. I mostly lurk for the stories and wicked comments.)

(19,186 posts)I had the pleasure of speaking with him a few times, and he certainly was committed. Sometimes I thought he should be committed, but you always knew that he cared, passionately, about Progressive causes. He was a good ol' boy, a sweet corn aficionado, and a great guy to rap with. He certainly is missed.
