http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2012/07/27/597591/santorum-defends-penn-state-blasts-freeh-report/Former Senator and GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum (PA) has long positioned himself as a champion of family values, so one might think he would be the strongest advocate for children who had been sexually assaulted by trusted adults.
But during an appearance on Dallas-Ft. Worths KSKY 660 AM on Friday, Santorum a Penn State alum and football fan denied the overwhelming evidence that former Penn State Football Coach Joe Paterno, President Graham Spanier, and others intentionally covered up evidence that Assistant Coach Jerry Sandusky molested and raped at least 10 boys:
SANTORUM: I actually read the Freeh Report. I dont know if you did or not, but I did. And, my concern with the Freeh report, a lot of the conclusions in the Freeh report arent matched by the evidence that they presented and so Ive been talking to a lot of folks at Penn State and they say, youre just gonna have to wait for the criminal trial of these two guys at Penn State. I think there is going to be a whole new line set on what really went on there. So Im sort of sitting back and waiting for the facts to come out as opposed to at least Im being told is a version of the facts. Lets get the truth. So I think were going to see some things come up a little different in the next six months. I just want to make sure we get it right.

(14,177 posts)The abuse was covered up. This is a fact and evidence backs this up. What we don't know is the extent and length of time this was covered up. We can say it started with I can't remember the name of the guy, that went to his boss and said he saw Sandusky raping a kid and that is as far as that went. It may have started sooner. That might be the extent of the cover up(I doubt it), but there definitely was a cover up. You can't say well it was just that one time so the cover up isn't that bad, no it is that bad even if it was just that one time.
So, for Santorum to ignore that glaring fact of at least one instance of cover-up is a red flag. It speaks volumes of what kind of character he has.

The Freeh Report isn't enough
Heck the victims stories aren't enough
Penn State even fired people before the Freeh Report came out - through an internal investigation.
