Some humans amaze me.
Dear Old Dog-
I still remember you. Your cloudy eyes, your tumors, your frailty as you got up and down. I was only in my late teens but I remember you, you and the others so much like you. Gentle souls who were thrown away like trash for the sin of growing older. I remember sitting with you on the cement floor with young, barking dogs around us. I brought you a blanket and we sat and I stroked your ears. Do you remember my promise? I whispered in your ear that I couldn't save you, but one day I would save others. Other old dogs who found themselves in a shelter. Unloved. Unwanted. I remember you. And I just want you to know that I have kept my promise. I couldn't save you, but I have saved others. I have given them good food, a soft bed, and a lifetimes worth of love. Today I did it again. And I will keep doing it. For you. For the others I couldn't save. For the ones I will never know of. I promise.

I've watched this woman/organization pull dogs from high kill shelters knowing they would be hard to place, but as you can see from above she wants to make sure they have a home and know love.
