Important - Hubby does the laundry and we almost never iron anything, but I have a basket of sheets that I've decided to give to Goodwill and want them sort of ironed.
He suggested this because he wanted me to watch an hour long talk by David Brooks. I don't like listening to stuff that long. He really wanted me to. So I did. I'm glad I did. If there are any DUers who can handle an hour long talk, I'd love to hear your reaction.

(28,795 posts)Now I confess I couldnt follow all the actual allegations made in those essays. They were six jungles deep in the weeds. But I do remember the intense atmosphere that the scandal created. A series of bombshell revelations came out in the media, which seemed monumental at the time. A special prosecutor was appointed and indictments were expected. Speculation became the national sport.
In retrospect Whitewater seems overblown. And yet it has to be confessed that, at least so far, the Whitewater scandal was far more substantive than the Russia-collusion scandal now gripping Washington.

Absolutely read some of the comments. They reveal just how much of a fool (tool?) Brooks truly is

(24,407 posts)How many people actually went to jail over it? The only thing that the 5,6, 7(?) year long investigation of Whitewater by 2-3(?) people produced was the impeachment of President Clinton, albeit over a TOTALLY UNRELATED MATTER. The Trump/Russia investigation has already produced several indictments, plea agreements, likely with more to come.

(1,461 posts)Before the 2003 invasion of Iraq, Brooks argued forcefully for American military intervention, echoing the belief of commentators and political figures that American and British forces would be welcomed as liberators. In 2005, Brooks wrote what columnist Jonathan Chait described as "a witheringly condescending" column portraying Senator Harry Reid as an "unhinged conspiracy theorist because he accused the [George W. Bush] administration of falsifying its Iraq intelligence.
