to shoot up the place. The NRA plans to host counter protests near the March For Our Lives protests sends a bad signal.
Gun nuts seem to be ready to threaten to shoot anyone who tries to advance gun control. And Trump/the RW and the GOP seem tone encouraging their aggressive behavior.
I am not sure how alarmed the pro gun control elements should be? My sense is that the gun nuts are getting into a frenzy if anyone even threatens their right to shoot people. It bothers me that rather than have sympathy for the victims there is a tendency to double down on the threats and aggression. You wonder how we got to such a hateful and vicious situation in this country.

(10,602 posts)I am just pointing out how hyper partisan they are. If anything they are determined to go in opposite direction. For example Senator Nevins and his son in Colorado both part of Colorado Gun Owners Assn. are pushing a bill to allow unlicensed concealed and carry in Colorado. They are part of an element who really want open carry guns everywhere. We passed a magazine limit and they started recalls on three Democratic state senators. Two were recalled and my senator ended up resigning after bitter recall petitions drive.
Their stance is open carry any weapon anywhere in the state with NO gun free zones. And they still refuse to give a millimeter. They refuse ANY common ground. And they keep trying to abolish what we have already passed. The Colorado Gun Owners Assn. is nothing more than a neo Nazi or white supremacists organization. They threaten anyone who apposes them.

(1,387 posts)This group has stated a racial/ethnic bias ? (couldn't find them when googled) Does the FBI know this ?
Do their threats go beyond replacing and/or challenging politicians and laws ?
Who signed the recall petitions of CO legislators ?
TheMastersNemesis
(10,602 posts)They were mean and abusive. I got surrounded by a bunch of these bastards one day. When we had the resignation event a bunch of young neo Nazis showed up in their swamp vehicle and they were wearing camouflage. I had a couple of potential run ins with one of those evil pricks who was gathering signatures. Even some motorcycle clubs showed up.
White supremacism was so obvious. And a lot of people signed that petitions. This recall went on for 6 weeks. They had a deadline to meet to have a recall election. They had numerous sites on major intersections. We had a lot of volunteers on many of these sites. I was on two or three of them myself.
Two senators actually got recalled. Our resigned rather than go through the special election.

'RMGO has been recognized as a gun-rights group so strident the National Rifle Association keeps its distance, [10] and has accused the NRA of squandering time and money and ``kissing up to politicians. '

They are working with the NRA.
They started as a way to make the NRA's position look more palatable to CO after Columbine. This strategy has obviously worked. Their finanacing ? Little if any transparency.
The thugs you encountered ? Who's feeding them ? The same as the NRA .🇷🇺.
The people of CO have been and are being manipulated. Social media plays a huge part. Familiar territory.
We need to educate the public more effectively about the tactics and strategies being used by all involved and teach them to "follow the money".
Hopefully Trump/Russia will bring down the NRA and their bogus offshoots.

(7,396 posts)......lots of immature mostly white, mostly male militia wannabe types who spent good money on a weapon they really can't use for anything but target practice. Some are getting itchy. It doesn't take a whole lot of people to get something started.

(1,714 posts)This is a disgusting, slanderous accusation. I know hundreds of gun owners, and not one of them, NOT ONE, believes they have a "right to shoot people." Nor do the millions of gun owners I don't know personally.
A lot of them feel that their Second Amendment Constitutional rights are in jeopardy (largely due to statements like yours.) They are being vocal, which is their right under the First Amendment. I certainly don't see a lot of "threats and aggression" in what they are doing.
And then you say:
You have to "wonder?" Really?? Seems to me you're part of the problem.

(15,315 posts)Gun nuts have been nothing but gentleman over this whole affair! Such slanderous accusations. Where do people around here get such fanciful notions? If they only traveled in the proper social circles as you obviously do, I'm sure they'd understand the errors of their ways. Thank you for setting them straight. In the good old days, Society would challenge them to a duel! Harumph.

(5,554 posts)Even the hard core NRA crowd isn't a bunch of psychos, they are just misguided and very dedicated. One point which came up in the most recent gun safety push is the gunners arguing that NRA members are never mass shooters. On review, this surprisingly appears to be correct.
If they were a bunch of unstable nuts eager to ignore law and order, I doubt they would care so much about what the law says.
To is type of 'they are a bunch of nuts and a danger to us all' just entrenches the us vs them mentality which has been eroding the middle ground and preventing common sense reforms for decades.
