They will say that voters should litigate this at the ballot-box in 2020.

And if Trump loses in 2020, they will say that it doesn't count: It would only count if Trump had been impeached or sentenced in court.

The only hope they have is to hold on to power which would never happen with impeachment hearings. Hold on to power and then never impeach. Lose power than let Dems impeach and complain from the sidelines. It's called republican leadership.

the repub agenda is getting killed. If they loose a bunch of seats and cant get anything done they will get rid of him. As long as he is useful they will keep him.. Just my take, YMMV.

Congress, as controlled by the Rethugs, have given away there power to Trump. If they cannot stand up to a tin plated tin horned dictator wannabee in the WH then they lost their right to run Congress because they have walked away from the oath of office they took when they were sworn in.

There isn't currently enough to get impeachment off the ground. Impeachment will occur after Mueller or a state AG publicly discloses findings and they reach a high bar, more comes out about other things involving Trump, or not at all. Republicans can still provide cover at this point. As long as they can continue to do so there won't be impeachment.

Many Republicans know that Trump is a national disgrace. But they also know that if he goes down they will too with a historic stigma that will take some time to repair.

If the Dems impeach, Trumps base will consider it normal political warfare, since the Dems will be representing "their team." The GOP is between a rock and a hard place. If I was them, I would quit politics. Putin has destroyed their party.

There's plenty in congress involved in this crap too.. they don't want to open the can of worms that might expose themselves.
