President Trump reportedly considered firing White House counsel Don McGahn if he didnt deny a report that he threatened to resign after Trump ordered him to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, according to The New York Times.
In January, the Times reported that Trump ordered Mueller to be fired last year, but was stopped after McGahn threatened to resign rather than carry out Trumps order.
In the days after the Times published its report, former White House staff secretary Rob Porter reportedly told McGahn that Trump wanted him to release a statement denying that Trump wanted Mueller to be fired and that McGahn threatened to resign over the order.
According to the Times, Porter told McGahn that Trump had suggested he might get rid of McGahn if he didnt issue the statement.
Trump later confronted McGahn in the Oval Office after he didnt release a statement denying the Times report. During the meeting, which chief of staff John Kelly also attended, Trump told McGahn he ordered him to fire Mueller, people familiar with the meeting told the newspaper.

(22,031 posts)John Dean actually had a conscience and the foresight that Nixon would make him the fall-guy.
McGahn was big in the Republican party's fundraising arm. He knows where Trump's campaign funds came from. He knows many things about Trump that could be fatal to the president but he hasn't pulled the trigger. I wonder why?
I suspect that McGahn is well aware of Trump's corruptions and illegal acts.

(23,091 posts)drumpf wanted to fire him but couldn't because he knows where the bodies are and could bring him down. So, he does the one thing he knows McGhan won't tolerate, raise tariffs, because he knows this will piss of McGhan and he'd leave. drumpf isn't president of our country, he's president of serving himself so he goes with his whims and rages, not giving a shit about the economic results.
