Shawn Moody, a leading Republican candidate for governor of Maine, told local radio station WVOM that fire extinguishers "can be a great deterrent" in an active shooter situation. He suggested that teachers could arm themselves with the frothy cannons the next time someone decides to go on a rampage with a military-grade assault rifle at a school, because, apparently, covering a gunman in white foam will stop him right in his tracks.

At the release of his plan, the NRA immediately withdrew funding from his campaign

2. I had this plan for my first grade classroom after Sandy Hook!

He stole my idea sort of. On the last day of class before Winter Vacation Sandy Hook occurred. In the weeks before going back to class I thought of my own plan. The classroom doors can only be locked FROM THE OUTSIDE and only opened OUT so you can't barricade them (sorry teacher, your life doesn't matter enough to change the doors). My plan was to get behind the door with the fire extinguisher held over my head, knock the shooter unconsciense, have the kids run to the office, tie him up with the jump rope, boil a pot of water in my microwave and be ready to scald him if he woke up and "came to". It was my only option as self defense. I couldn't harm him very well using my globe, a glue stick and a ruler.
