(34,136 posts)Tweets may be blocked at their place of work. So posting the text of the tweet provides the message for those who cannot see the original.

(16,104 posts)Tweets are blocked to keep the employees and staff 'on task' at work.
So they are on DU where we copy the tweets for them!

(8,419 posts)Director of Infrastruction come into a Change Management meeting with an emergency request to block certain sites. It was during the World Cup and numerous employees were streaming the matches.
VP of IT sat there shaking his head yes, then asks when are you putting the change in?
1PM today was the response.
VP tells him he won't approve the change, tries to b.s. a testing reason, suggests he waits a week. Infrastructure dude says the tourney is over in a week and that defeats the purpose, VP then tells him to make the change over the weekend.
Infrastructure dude leaves pissed off, I can't resist and ask the VP, which match do you want to watch. He responds, the one that starts at 1PM today!

(5,523 posts)But some sites like Twitter were blocked for security reasons. You Tube was blocked but could be accessed with special permission for research.

(7,233 posts)1. Some people complained they couldn't see tweets, just the link, so a number of us add a text version to our posts.
2. Tweets can be deleted, or Twitter may be unavailable at times. If that happens, at least the text version preserves what was said.

(7,233 posts)especially if you're posting several tweets in a message, but you should have seen the number of complaints (some quite bitter) from Twitter-haters and those behind corporate firewalls that prompted some of us to start doing this!
If anyone can think of a better way, I'm all ears.
It's a compromise. My point (2) about the occasional non-persistence of tweets is the most compelling argument for doing it as far as I'm concerned.

(43,181 posts)So I'm actually glad people do that for context.
Twitter is still annoying in general but an inescapable evil at this point.
My only pet peeve is that too many people use DU just use it to repost other people's tweets without adding any additional comment of their own.
