Free Greta Lindecrantz

Greta Lindecrantz is a 67 year old Mennonite woman who is a criminal defense investigator in Colorado. Due to her Mennonite beliefs and values, she has devoted her career to keeping people off death row--and she is now being compelled to choose between the demands of prosecutors and her life-long call to resist the death penalty.

On Monday, February 26th, Greta was jailed for refusing to testify for the prosecution, where her testimony could be used to justify the death penalty. Greta’s work on this case was performed a decade ago and is already part of the court record. There is no reason for her to be required to provide testimony in this case. Regardless, she has been punished for her refusal to act in a way that could be used to support the death penalty.

Further, the imprisonment of Greta Lindecrantz is but one additional symptom of a criminal justice system that is cruel, corrupt and immoral. Arapahoe County is a clear example of why deep reform to our criminal justice and death penalty systems is an imperative. All three people on death row in Colorado are from Arapahoe County, and all three are black men.
