Welp, yesterday we did it.

My wife and I are now officially registered as Republicans in our very red state. Feels kind of weird walking around knowing we are in the same party as the majority in this state. Funny thing is, when we got to the clerks office we ran into some friends who were doing the same thing. We had a good chuckle and brief chat before we committed the dirty deed.

You see, several years ago the state repubs put the kabosh on our usual habit of crossing over by closing their primary to registered repubs only. (The other parties remain open). This year, there are at least three redhats (and probably the usual perennial kooks {think Right To Life - his legal name, I shit you not}) running for Governor including the absolutely detestable/deplorable 1st District representative whom we shall vote against. Anybody but Raul. I'm thinking he wants a term or two as executive before launching a bid for Prez. He is really a jerk. Usually, there's no consequence because the Democratic candidate(s) has no chance in the general, but we do pay attention and play that by feel.

After the primary in May, we intend to change back but now we're wondering if we should remain registered this way. If enough people did the same, it could monkeywrench the repubs projections for turnout/voter ratio, but by the same token it might cause problems for the Dems too. Dunno.

Anyway, anyone but Rawwool.

He is a true blue Democrat but Sarah Davis, the only pro-choice GOP state house member, was being primaried by Greg Abbott's candidate and he had to vote for Sarah. Sarah's opponent was an anti-vaxer idiot.

Terry Branstad.

I still get Republican emails. I also used to get the calls. One night it turned out to be some rather important info that I fed to our candidate immediately.

Good luck.

Brace yourself to be pummeled by Republican snail mail soliciting money. Hide your email from them like your life depended on it.

Unfortunately somewhere along the line, the post office put the kibosh on that practice.

We have open primaries. He has been doing this for years and doesn't get junk mail from them.
