Hat tip, DCRTV.com: http://www.dcrtv.com/mailbag.html
Sinclair's new local promos to air: The promos are supposed to start airing on local stations later this month. The instructions sent to station news directors say that the 60- and 75-second spots should run frequently "to create maximum reach and frequency."... The promos begin with one or two anchors introducing themselves and saying "I'm [we are] extremely proud of the quality, balanced journalism that [proper news brand name of local station] produces. But I'm [we are] concerned about the troubling trend of irresponsible, one sided news stories plaguing our country." Text from script to be read by Sinclair's local anchors
"This is so manipulative."
That's an anchor at a local TV station owned by Sinclair, describing the company's latest mandate, a promotional campaign that sounds like pro-Trump propaganda. ... Internal documents call the new initiative an "anchor delivered journalistic responsibility message." ... But the staffers who shared the documents with CNN say the promos are inappropriate -- yet another corporate infringement on local journalism.
"At my station, everyone was uncomfortable doing it," a local anchor said. The person insisted on anonymity because they believed they would be fired for speaking out. ... Other local anchors also said the promos were a source of dismay in their newsrooms. ... As scripted, the promos decry "fake stories" from national news outlets -- echoing President Trump's inflammatory rhetoric about "fake news." .... "I felt like a POW recording a message," one of the anchors said.
....
After this story was published, {Scott Livingston, the company's senior vice president of news} sent CNN another copy of the script. It had one big difference: The word "national" was missing. Instead, it said "some media outlets" publish "fake stories." ... The rest of the language remained the same. Livingston said this script was "distributed yesterday to our stations." He declined to answer other questions on the record.
The instructions for producing and airing the localized versions went into great detail about how the promos "should look and sound," according to another document obtained by CNN. ... "Talent should dress in jewel tones -- however they should not look political in their dress or attire," one of the documents says. "Avoid total red, blue and purples dresses and suits. Avoid totally red, blue and purple ties, the goal is to look apolitical, neutral, nonpartisan yet professional. Black or charcoal suits for men...females should wear yellow, gold, magenta, cyan, but avoid red, blue or purple." ... At the end of the promo, viewers are encouraged to send in feedback "if you believe our coverage is unfair." ... The instructions say that "corporate will monitor the comments and send replies to your audience on your behalf." ... In other words, local stations are cut out of the interactions with viewers. Management will handle it instead.

(57,425 posts)That would be like invading Iraq because Osama bin Laden flew some planes into your buildings.
Here's what you do:
Is there a Sinclair affiliate near you? If so, watch it. See who the local sponsors are. POLITELY write them and let them know what they are financing. Also let them know you won't be needing their services or products anymore, and you will encourage others to shun said sponsors. Make signs and picket the sponsors. Reward their competitors by purchasing their products and services.
Optional: every time you see an anchor read one of these statements, send $5 or $10 or $20 to ActBlue. For your email address, give ActBlue the email address of that Livingston fellow at Sinclair who is ordering that these statements be read. He will be thanked for his support of people fighting Trump's (and Sinclair's) agenda. If ActBlue doesn't float your boat, make it ProPublica or the ACLU or Planned Parenthood. Make sure Livingston knows about every last donation.
That's how to bring about change.
Thanks for writing.

(1,461 posts)Before setting out on our tour, we would like to thank CNN for issuing this general warning that, on many local TV stations in many of our laboratories of democracy, people are going to be fed rancid propaganda by Brittany and Chad at the NewsTeam5 anchor desk.
Then the media bashing begins.
"The sharing of biased and false news has become all too common on social media," the script says. "More alarming, national media outlets are publishing these same fake stories without checking facts first. Unfortunately, some members of the national media are using their platforms to push their own personal bias and agenda to control 'exactly what people think' ... This is extremely dangerous to our democracy." Then the anchors are supposed to strike a more positive tone and say that their local station pursues the truth. "We understand Truth is neither politically 'left or right.' Our commitment to factual reporting is the foundation of our credibility, now more than ever.
Needless to say, Sinclair should be stripped of its broadcasting privileges and broken into a thousand pieces. Its purchase of the Tribune Media should be laughed out of the room and its local advertisers should flee its local stations in droves. Every authoritarian regime needs its mouthpieces and, if you can stop it from attaining one, the regime eventually will fall to its own lies. This is what needs to happen now. Meanwhile, if you live in one of those places afflicted by this noxious media weed, be forewarned. Theres always a Law & Order rerun on somewhere.

Remember how relentlessly, obnoxiously mendacious this prick was?
Hes now their chief Goebbels clone
Sinclair is a corporate giant that owns or operates around 190 local TV news stations across the country, and its been quietly forcing its stations to air nationally produced right-wing spin for years. But when it hired Epshteyn, fresh from a stint in the Trump administration, to serve as its chief political analyst, it was only a matter of time before everyone was paying attention. Numerous media and business reporters highlighted Sinclairs twofold plan for growing local right-wing news: using the companys still-pending acquisition of Tribune Media stations to further expand its reach across the country (with its potentially unethical relationship with the Trump administration and its appointees paving the way), and hiring Epshteyn as a new, Trump-aligned star for must-run national segments.
After I spent the last 11 months in the Sinclair rabbit hole with these reporters, one thing has become awkwardly, painfully obvious to me: Sinclair is forcing its stations to run Epshteyns segments because no one cares otherwise. There is no organic audience actively seeking out his pro-Trump commentary.
At the time it hired Epshteyn, Sinclair touted its new analyst as providing unique perspective to the political conversation that would better inform and empower our viewers. It also made the decision months later to up his airtime, though the company declined to say why.
I watch each new Bottom Line with Boris must-run segment on his YouTube channel, usually shortly after its posted. On YouTube, I alone account for a not-insignificant portion of his total viewership, which is usually less than 50.

I'll run the picture of the First Amendment on the side of the Newseum again when I get around to it.
Or has he committed a crime and been tried for and convicted of the commission of this crime? I don't know. I don't follow him, whoever he is.

(28,795 posts)Is Boris the infamous Source E?
...page two of the Dossier (link) asserts that Source E provided an introduction at a Moscow hotel which appears to have led to the Russian prostitutes ending up in Donald Trumps room.
Two months ago Joseph Cannon published a blog post in which he claimed that An anonymous informant tells me that Source E is Boris Epshteyn, the man who is running Trumps inauguration. Cannon went on to make a lengthy case as to why his sources claim fit with the publicly available evidence... Palmer Report 3/25/17
I know, unsubstantiated....that really stopped botsntrolls during the campaign, and has ANYthing in the dossier been disproven yet?

More BS from SBG... The latest controversy surrounding notorious TV station owner Sinclair is getting more play by the day. This one is worth the read: http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/03/local-news-anchors-now-have-to-read-pro-trump-propaganda.html I truly feel bad for the workforce at the Tribune stations. Surely they've heard by now that working for Sinclair sucks. All they can do, as they wait for the merger to close (and it will, as they've got the FCC in their hip pocket) is sit back and await the crazy. (3/9/18)
