Period uniforms...PERIOD FUCKING UNIFORMS! Seriously we are not tin soldiers built for the pleasure and amusement of the president or the American people...we are professionals and should be treated accordingly

(53,061 posts)President Trump will get his much-anticipated military parade, but it will not include some of the biggest military hardware, according to a planning memo released late Friday by the Pentagon, Politico reports.
The event, which will take place Nov. 11, will include troops from different branches, highlight the growing role of women in the armed forces and have a heavy air component of modern and historic war planes, the memo says.

(2,990 posts)It's what the British and French used before they developed the ability to fire through the propeller arc. The Germans developed that capacity first with their Fokker E.3 monoplanes.
(The airplane Chris Pine flew in Wonder Woman was an E.3, which made no sense; the movie was set toward the end of the war, long after the E.3 was considered obsolete.)

(24,324 posts)These are some of the best rudimental drummers in the land. (Yeah, I know one of them, although I think he just retired.)
None of the musicians are soldiers who happen to play in the Old Guard. When there is an opening, the position is advertised nationally, for fife, trumpet drums...... There may be as many as 300 people apply for one job, and it IS a job, which is won by audition. That is what they basically do, all the time. Of course they have to join the Army. But they are not really "military."
Anyway, they art all superb, highly trained musicians...
Thanks for posting...

(11,088 posts)I suspect most would object to being called "not military." Amazing musicians all but also all Army.

(24,324 posts)To the people I know, it is a job, like playing in the Cincinnati Symphony.

(11,088 posts)The Army has a lot of Lawyers, Doctors, Nurses, Dentists, Veterinarians, and Musicians. They are subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. They are all held to military standards of fitness and readiness. They all support the "trigger-pullers." All these folks pursue their profession but are all Army. I am a retired Army JAG. My "job" was being a lawyer but my honor was being an Army officer.
It's insulting to suggest any of these people not "really" military.

(3,585 posts)course veterans sometimes like to wear their own period uniforms at events.

(50,237 posts)If there's one thing I hate, it's a chicken hawk. There was no shame in weaseling out of the Vietnam war, but 50 years later to suddenly become General Patton is a bit much. Don had his chance to serve in uniform and he didn't. Bone spurs aren't inoperable.

(17,175 posts)... our ROTC color guard dressed in uniforms of a Revolutionary War artillery battery. Red coats, cocked hats. One of the cadets on the squad changed the little colored flash that represented arm of service to yellow -- for Armor.
Was never sure of the etiquette when the flag went by -- salute as if in "real" uniform, or take off the cocked hat and hold it over my heart?

Oh, man, nasty thought. What if he's on the reviewing stand, and, as they march past, they all flip him off instead of saluting? I know that could never happen, but it's a great mental image... or maybe fodder for a cartoon.

(24,259 posts)This parade is supposedly to honor veterans and our military (Yeah, I know that's pigpoop) but The reality is that the military and vets don't NEED a big fancy $30 MILLION dollar parade. They need better healthcare, better facilities, better wages, better equipment, etc. You really want to honor them? HELP THEM don't waste any money on Trump's narcissistic ego stroking.
So where are all of the supposedly fiscal conservatives who should be outraged over spending money on a friggin parade? They must be taking steps to block it right? ::crickets::
