Trump threatens to tax European auto imports

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump kept up pressure on trading partners on Saturday, threatening European automakers with a tax on imports if the European Union retaliates against his plan to slap tariffs on aluminum and steel.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trade-autos/trump-threatens-to-tax-european-auto-imports-idUSKCN1GF0QJ

This sounds right out of what the Putin Playbook would want. Trump is going after our allies in Europe, and no one should be fooled, this has very little to do with American jobs, and it fails to deal with a large part of the problem, oversupply. The Steel and Aluminum import tax. which I believe will take effect in a couple weeks has some very real risks.

Any cost increases will be passed on to the consumer, and anything that uses Steel or Aluminum should be expected to go up in price. That includes anything from automibles to beer cans

This shooting from the hip style is not negotiation

No wonder trump admires the thugs Duterte and Putin. They have the same mindset as he does

He's forcing his allies to buy American, when they could have anyway and chose not to.

Another dumb ploy by a dumb man.

And when BMW (their second-largest factory is in Spartanburg, SC), Mercedes-Benz (4000 workers in their Alabama car plant, plus however many they have in their Freight.iner and Detroit Diesel plants) and Volkswagen (who has a factory in Chattanooga, TN) retaliate by going to three-days-a-week operation, then what?

I know “I’m going to fuck your wife in front of you and you just have to take it” is how he does business...but dammit, this isn’t his company. Why in fuck won’t the GOP members of Congress deal with this?

BMW is a little above midrange, but they build in South Carolina. The tariffs will hit mostly Italian cars and Volvo.

cars who also have manufacturing plants in South Carolina, Alabama, etc.

The folks who buy those vehicles are mostly in the upper income bracket, and I don't think this will move that demographic to buy start buying Chevrolets, which just demonstrates what an idiot he is.
