the typical plan will be to give the teachers more work to do, have more responsibilities, receive inadequate training (probably paid for by the teachers themselves), staffs will be cut and teachers will have their benefits and pay cut to pay for the school district's new gun insurance and the additional costs for the guns followed by a letter in the next paycheck saying that due to budget cuts there will be no COLA and pink slips are coming in the Summer. Have a good day!

We're already doing the protecting, but without guns.

That coach killed at Stoneman Douglas? He went through intruder drills, in which the assumption is that since teachers are in loco parentis if any danger befalls one of his charges, he's the first line of protection. During intruder drills I put the huskiest, strongest guys next to the door and then join them. If anybody with a gun gets through, they'd stand a better chance of taking the guy down before he had a chance to commit mayhem than others; when there's a complaint, I point out that would they rather be killed trying to defend others and themselves or sheltering behind others in the back of the room.

And, in any event, I'm with them nearest the door, holding whatever I have in my room to stop any intruder that gets through the door with whatever weapon he has--knife, pistol, AR15.

I'm not about to get a gun and go through whatever's needed to carry it at school. I own one, but tend to support gun rights; the one I own is kept in a gun safe in another state, and it was passed down to me when my father died. He used it once, to kill himself. Still, I recognize that others might want to use more than a baseball bat against an intruder coming through a doorway.

if they qualify and pass the stringent standards, which I assume that I would have passed.
