I might be wrong, but isn't this sentence bizarre ?
Please join me with your thoughts and prayers for both aviators, their families and our incredible @USNavy.
With ? Isn't better to say : join your P&T to mine ? Well, in French, it is what I would say. That "with" makes feel like I need a bag , a trolley or whatever, to carry the P&T
"For" ? isn't "goes to" more correct ?
"Both" ? Why both when talking about victims, families AND the Navy ? Isn't "both" used when only 2 subjects are involved ?
Sorry, if I'm wrong. If so, I've learned something new today.

I try to do my best to not to hurt too much the English language.
If, even me, as non native English speaker, find his tweets and speeches strange, I wonder what are your impressions ?

(21,846 posts)That is my take on his poor writing.
Also, his personality will not allow him to admit that he is ever wrong. Accordingly, he cannot edit his writing because editing would be an admission that his first thought was wrong in some way.

If he can be president like that, why does he have to do his homework?...

(12,646 posts)However, when grouping them with other things (aviators along with their families and the Navy in general), it should be written as "for the two aviators" instead of "for both aviators", just so there would be no confusion on the subject that one is sharing sympathy with - which is a group that includes the aviators who lost their lives.
"With" is acceptable here because of the way colloquial English can be constructed.
I think the more concise tweet that might suggest an official appearance of condolences would read:
"Please join me in sending thoughts and prayers to the families of the two aviators who lost their lives in Key West this morning and our incredible @USNavy"
An Oxford comma is not required between "morning" and "and" at the end, but some people might add it.
The two aviators who perished do not need prayers, unless their religion demands others pray for their entrance to some sort of preferred afterlife. Thoughts, yes - but not prayers.
