When I saw that today was Second Amendment Martyrs Day once again,
I checked my calendar to see if I had made an earlier note to observe the holiday, but somehow I hadn't: the day just crept up on me, the way it always does
Driving across America, I've found most cities and towns have memorials to people who died protecting our freedoms
And in our Capitol City there are bigger monuments for veterans and our war dead
But for some reason, there's no real memorial for the Second Amendment martyrs, though perhaps something like our Vietnam Wall, listing only their names, might be appropriate
Maybe that's why Second Amendment Martyrs Day somehow doesn't feel anything like Memorial Day or Veterans Day to me
Or maybe it's something else
I suppose I could sit down to write a letter full of thoughts and prayers to the NRA, knowing that they feel aggravated and victimized by our Second Amendment Martyrs
But I think I'll look for a better way to honor the memories of the dead
