Dramatic Change in Illinois 3rd District

with 82% of votes in Lipinski (incumbent)had a 1,700 lead that looked tough to beat-but Marie Newman just jumped into the lead by about 1600. Big numbers came in from Lake County. 87% now reporting

BTW it looks like total Democratic turnout may be about 2/3rds Democrat. Note Pritzker leading Governor's race with about 45% but he has more votes than the entire Republican field

Pretty small part of the district, and all the votes are in.

Very close...not sure there are enough votes left in suburban Cook for Newman to pull it out.

I would suggest writing in Marie Newman for the general election. The neo-nazi Republican Dan gets to run against has no chance of winning. The Republicans pretty much let their guy (Lipinski) run unopposed.

Althou Pelosi who I adore supported Lipinski he is not a strong dem at all!! Vote totals here in the state are FANTASTIC! Dems have out voted the repukes more than 2 to 1state wide. Ruiner has been the worst thing that has happened to our state ... over and above blagoavich. Illinois is pumped!

Rep. Dan Lipinski, an avid foe of abortion rights and one of the most conservative Democrats in the House, fended off a fierce challenge from the left on Tuesday night in Illinois, all but assuring an eighth term in Congress.

Lipinski narrowly prevailed over businesswoman Marie Newman, 51 to 49, after a bitter campaign battle that pitted the party’s ideological poles against one another. Lipinski was backed heavily by anti-abortion rights groups and by some unions, while Newman boasted endorsements from a host of outside groups on the left in the 3rd District contest
