(9,287 posts)Police have said that Conditt, who was home-schooled growing up, was 24, although some public records indicate he was 23.

Mother went to an evangelical Lutheran college, his sisters' FB page was post after post about lent, religious pictures. His mother had no posts about religion or politics. Most posts were about the daughter though , who's a gymnast. Only one post about Mark.

(37,158 posts)It's not just the evangelniks who home school. Sometimes it's ideological, sometimes quality issues, sometimes the schools not doing anything about bullying, sometimes special needs that the school can't adequately handle.
The ideological one isn't exclusively fundy either, although there were some amusing parallels. Way back (early 90s?) I heard fundy and lefty home-schoolers speak, about a week apart:
The fundies home-schooled because they thought the schools were turning kids into mindless drones for a gray oppressive Stalinist state.
Lefty home-schoolers did so because they thought the schools were turning kids into mindless cogs for a gray oppressive corporate machine.

(81,450 posts)Jensen was one of only about a dozen friends listed on Conditts Facebook page before it was removed on Wednesday morning.
The two were close in 2012 and 2013, said Jensen, who would often go to the Conditts home for lunch after Sunday church service and attended Bible study and other activities with him. Jensen said Conditt came from a good family, was athletic, enjoyed rock climbing and parkour and was a deep thinker.
Jensen said Conditt attended regular church services at the Austin Stone Community Church on St. Johns Avenue.

(13,225 posts)As CNN reported, police in Austin area were able to identify the suspected bomber after receiving information in the last 24 to 36 hours that led them to a person of interest. They were then able to obtain surveillance images from a FedEx store in Austin and found a series of purchases that led them to identify the suspects car outside a Red Roof Inn in Round Rock, Texas. Conditts identity was first reported by NBC News.
As the report noted, after being identified, suspected Austin bomber Mark Anthony Conditt
drove a short distance and stopped by the side of the road. The man detonated an explosive device as SWAT teams approached the car, the report noted.
As CBS Dallas-Fort Worth reported, there are suspicions that Mark Anthony Conditt may not have worked alone in the Austin bombings. Hector Tarango, a retired agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, had told the news outlet before the suspect was identified that he believed the bomber would be between the ages of 20 and 30, well-educated, and a resident of the area.

(182,769 posts)When my daughter gets to high school one option is to start taking college courses as well. She could basically knock out the first two years at a reduced rate while in high school. Her Spanish and I think art classes next year will be high school credits. Not bragging it's just the program the schools have.
csziggy
(34,136 posts)Between CLEPping (College Level Examination Program) a lot of the basic courses and taking summer classes between eleventh and twelfth grades she received her AA degree at the same time she got her high school diploma. Then she went on to continue that same intensive study program and got her BA eighteen months later. Since she had started school at the age of five, she had just turned 19 when she completed college. She was offered a job in Georgia but their legal age of adulthood was 21 and she could not sign contracts so she stayed here in Florida.
Yes, that is a program that is widely available and students from regular public schools and homeschooled kids often take advantage of it.
Docreed2003
(16,858 posts)What I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around is a program like that for homeschoolers. I suppose my bias against homeschooling is showing but I just don't find "homeschooling college credit" credible. Perhaps though, they are using some online program which certified and manages the curriculum. No clue.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)Allow college courses in lieu of the same courses in high school, in principle, a person gets double credit. Homeschooling requires students adhere to an approved learning plan from the school district.

Austin Bomber Mark Anthony Conditt will be deemed "Mentally Ill"
If he was Mexican, he would have been a "bad hombre".
If he was Black, he would have been a "gangsta".
If he was Muslim, he would have been a "terrorist".
If he was Russian, he would have been CONGRATULATED!

meme called "a good Catholic joke" about the Pope backhanding Hillary Clinton off a stage. I honestly thought Catholics were the only ones who celebrated Lent, so I learned something today.
She also posted a meme saying "I don't want to vote for any of these people" in 2016. Didn't see any pro-Trump posts. Mother attended an evangelical Lutheran college so maybe daughter just likes posting Catholic memes.

there is a sickness radiating through this country and it doesn't help having a sick a$$ shell of man squatting in the WH with his own mental issues.

It's being reported he left behind a 'treasure trove' of information. His 2 roommates are being questioned and are cooperating with authorities. They are not suspects at this time.

(81,450 posts)Late Tuesday, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were dispatched to two homes in the Cedar Park area to check the front porch and to notify residents that they may be in danger.
The official said each of the bombs had "striking consistencies" in how they are manufactured.
Conditt, a Pflugerville resident, apparently killed himself early Wednesday as authorities closed in on him, local and federal law enforcement sources told the American-Statesman and KVUE-TV.

(81,450 posts)7:00 AM PT -- Conditt graduated from Austin Community College. There might be a clue as to how he developed expertise in bomb making. He reportedly worked as a computer repair tech and also as a "purchasing agent/buyer/shipping and receiving" at Crux Manufacturing in Austin. The company is involved in robotics, mechanical repair ... it builds a variety of metal products.

(14,971 posts)KVUE has confirmed that Conditt had worked at a "turnkey manufacturing solutions company" called Crux Manufacturing, according to a staff member there. The staff member said Conditt was hired at the company when he was 19 and that he was let go last August due to the fact that he wasn't meeting expectations. Conditt worked in purchasing and sales at the company, the staff member said.
The staff member described Conditt as "quiet, introverted and reserved."
