Damn. I just read an article written by a right-winger...

In which he decimated David Hogg. But I am not posting this to call attention to the article, but rather, to the comments. Dozens and dozens of comments from right wingers. They were complete with calls to beat up Mr. Hogg, statements saying that Hogg is a crisis actor paid by CNN, Hogg is not a high school student, and cutting statements about Hogg's appearance. Many of the comments also stated that Hogg's activism has inspired them to renew their NRA memberships. Most of the comments were replete with meaningless sentences and misspelled words. Many of the comments alluded to violence against Mr. Hogg.

I stay away from garbage like this. I read DU A LOT, and I also read the politics sub-Reddit, which is left leaning. As such, as a general rule, I don't clutter my mind with right wing horseshit.

That being said, after landing on and reading the subject article...I am left with a few thoughts...

It was never like this. I didn't grow up with this shit. It may have been there, but it was kept under wraps, or maybe it wasn't there to this extent...I don't know.

When we leave our homes for whatever purpose, these people are around us. They are at the gas station, in the mall, at the grocery store. They are stupid, and they are dangerous. Some of them are armed, and they are itching to use their weapons. This changes the mindset of people like me. I am hesitant to walk into a bar. I am more aware of my surroundings at the grocery store. I make absolutely certain not to piss anyone off while driving. I am not afraid of confrontation, but I really like to avoid it if at all possible.

I think the Fox News and Rush Limbaugh brainwashing is complete, and I have no idea how to reverse it. I resent having to ruminate about my safety when leaving the house. I resent having to keep my shit together when some blowhard idiot starts going on about MAGA and Trump with his big fucking mouth. I resent not being able to completely enjoy my "freedom". I give no quarter to people who are stupid AND hateful. That's a bad combination that we should not have to deal with. To Trump's supporters and enablers...thanks a lot, motherfuckers. You're going to turn to dust like I am, but karma will have its way with you first. You will be on the wrong side of history, and your stupidity will do you in. Remember this too you slack jawed fuckers... liberals are not snowflakes. Make love to your guns all you want...they are not going to help you.

that one never have something like the Parkville shooting happen close enough to them that they lose someone they love? Or that a David Hogg is their nephew, and so they can finally understand a bit of what is really going on?

Slightly off topic, but I wish there would be on-going coverage of the wounded trying to recover. Most of them will NEVER be remotely the same. Their physical wounds will be there the rest of their lives, and the ones merely (merely!) present where the shooting took place will bear the psychological scars forever.

are agreeable, photos of their massacred children should be shown on the news everyday. Your point about the wounded is very well taken. Imagine you are critically wounded and you are in excrutiating pain for the rest of your life because of some asshole with a gun. Not to mention the anxiety and nightmares. It boggles the mind.

to see the damage bullets do, especially the high-powered bullets.

Several weeks ago someone here posted a link to an article about this. Don't remember enough to try to locate that article again, but it was very informative without being blood and gore graphic.

The only difference was that the comments were made against people of color and others trying to get their rights.

I don't know how old you are, but the Klan was still killing people when I was a child. The internet is just one big Klan meeting these days.

so I was pretty politcally aware in the 60's. I remember the Watts riots, George Wallace, the Democratic Convention, etc. However, I don't remember any hatred against Mexicans, in fact, hatred of the rest of the world and all of this "america first" stuff. What a world we live in when the hatred of blacks by whites basically has not changed since the 60's. No wonder the world laughs at us.

Build a wall around them and let them do whatever they want to themselves and each other. Make sure border security is tight so they can't get into our country and spread their poison.

I haven't see anyone go after the Parkland students, but there is plenty of support for cops that punch handcuffed people in custody, resentment of the poor and anger at undocumented immigrants. This week there is a lot of anger at our governor because he supports lowering CO2 emissions and increasing our use of renewables.

If it is this bad here, I can't imagine what it is like in most parts of the country.
