Did anyone go to Boston Common today?

I was wondering about the sound system. We arrived at about 2 (the official start time) and faced the happy problem of not being able to get anywhere near enough to see anything. That was to be expected/hoped for. But neither could we hear anything, just a faint sound of someone speaking on a PA system, but not close to being audible. We hung around for a half hour or so to contribute to the body count and then left. When we were almost to the Arlington St. subway station we began to hear a person speaking on a PA system, almost clearly. Way louder than it had been.

Did others have this experience? Know anything about it? Just curious.
