General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI found out something very alarming today at my county Dem Assembly.
One of our candidates for a US House seat is a major in the Army Reserve AND HE'S BEEN CALLED UP FOR POSSIBLE ACTION IN NORTH KOREA.
That's pretty scary and I will certainly be calling my US Senators and Representative about this on Monday.
We have to keep the pressure up because like many of you, I suspect Trump is going insane.

(15,805 posts)Army reserves. That person is currently on their 2 weeks a year at an army base and their unit is going through a bunch of readiness activities so that if they are called up to Korea it wont take them months to do so.
My friend was relaying that their commander was chewed out by a general that drove by the other day. I guess the general noted that they should not have hot showers or hot food because they wouldnt have those in Korea.
Yeah, the OP is quite believable. My friend has been told for several months that deploying to S. Korea is a very real possibility.

(14,570 posts)to clarify...
What I saw today, along with about 900 other people attending our county Democratic Assembly, is a video from one of the candidates running for a seat in the US House.
What he said in the video is that he would love to be here in person, but he has been called up. Korea was mentioned in the video.
I was merely putting two and two together so don't split hairs on me please. I'm sorry if I went overboard.
Nonetheless - FACT - the guy is a major in my state's Army Reserve and he has been called up.

(69 posts)So you heard "Korea" and assumed "North Korea".
Yeah, you went overboard. Big time.
We already have over 20,000 troops in South Korea. Being called up to serve in South Korea wouldn't be particularly odd.

(73,630 posts)Hes going to be bivouacked in a tent, out in a field someplace. Theyre trying to simulate combat conditions as best they can.
Now whether or not they were referring to the real deal, rather than planned joint exercises like Team Spirit or Ulchi Focus Lens, I dont know.
But thats been going on for decades, even when I was stationed there more than thirty years ago.
She would be in a tent. Shes not combat- more health related.

(9,726 posts)Trump may be stupid enough to tip his hand like that, but the people in the military who issue the actual orders wouldn't be. I think maybe there's a failure to communicate somewhere.

(347 posts)I suspect he's been activated to serve in the upcoming US-South Korea joint exercises.
WASHINGTON The United States and South Korea will resume their annual joint military exercises on April 1, the Pentagon announced Monday, restarting drills that have aroused the ire of North Korea and were suspended during the Olympics and Paralympics.
