I served 6 years as an Infantryman where I trained tirelessly on the M4(AR15) weapon system. 2 combat tours in Iraq and I can say that NO average citizen should own one. #VetsForGunReform

(1,216 posts)No civilians needs to own anything bigger than a Pistol.
May be a shotgun requiring manual insertion of 2 shots at a time is OK for hunting.

(36,744 posts)All the rest should fall into a highly restricted class or be banned outright.
The revolvers should be in a mid range classification requiring a 90 day waiting period for adequate background check.
Wont happen but in attempting to get there some good laws will be passed.

(39,171 posts)The problem that gun control has is the lack of wide and deep public support. The real issue is the Senate - each state gets two votes regardless of population. The Senate is where strict gun control goes to die.

(1,216 posts)probably more than handguns. But a senior person -or- a single mother has to have some defense against an intruder. Especially if they live in a high crime area.

(16,161 posts)but their owners are usually insured and they are registered. Get caught driving an un registered automobile and see what you run into.
Some of those high crime areas are due to criminals having unregistered or stolen firearms..
Can we at least register the owners?

(1,216 posts)in civilian and law enforcement hands. But it has to be based on income, because I want a single mother living in a big city with high crimes to be able to afford a handgun.
And it then follows that if you must have liability insurance, the weapon will be registered.
And I also want mandatory long prison time for anyone committing crime with a firearm. Even possession of un-registered weapon should be good for 5 years behind bars.
