Via Sports Illustrated's MMQB.com, here's a photo of the letter that Patriots owner Robert Kraft left for the students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., who flew to the "March For Our Lives" rally on the Pats team plane:

At the suggestion of former U.S. congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona - who survived a shooting in 2011 - and her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly, Kraft loaned one of the team's two planes to fly about half of the families of the 17 of the victims of the Valentine's Day mass shooting at the high school, a handful of the students who were injured, and a group of students who would be performing a song at the march on Saturday in Washington.
A copy of the letter and a Patriots' cap was left on each of the students and families' seats on the plane.

(2,190 posts)It could be that some of the survivors and families decided to decline the ride for that very reason. I guess we might find out someday.

(15,311 posts)Hell, we may be truly in a battle for the survival of our country.
Kraft did a nice thing.
You know what would be even nicer?
How about coming out against what the orange shitgibbon is doing to our country?
How about NOT normalizing this Retrumplican bullshit.
Let me say how I think this will play out.
"Oh, did you see the nice thing that Kraft did?
"Why, yes, yes I did see that"
"Well, you know, he supports Donnie Shit for Brains"
"Oh, well in that case, Donnie Shit for Brains must not be sooooo bad"
NORMALIZATION 101!!!!

(31,261 posts)They all say that Kraft is a good man and is very involved in all communities there for a rich guy. An African American Hall of Fame linebacker that played for what used to be the Biston Patriots before Kraft bought the team works for Kraft and some people up there believe is a confidant of Kraft. I have no idea why Kraft supports Trump, but people are not always easy to figure out. Unlike some here allege, I think the support is about more than money.

(14,675 posts)this was a class act.
That said, the patriots as an organization is corrupt and arrogant. Tom Brady is a trump supporter. Enough said.

(12,645 posts)While the politics, morals, or belief systems might be different, they share the same sphere of influence, so there's a commonality of community at the heart in their dealings with each other.
As my FIL, who walked into an executive position in the insurance business after leaving the AF as a colonel, would say about the situation, as Northeastern Busniessmen, Kraft and Drumpf have political interests in common, so Kraft would see Drumpf as an ally in more ways that he might not with other politicians. Kraft could be a good democrat and generous patron of his communities, but since he would see Drumpf at the same events and might actually "work" with him on common causes, he could be more easily convinced that Drumpf might be better due to the intentional confusion and gridlock that the Democrats couldn't "fix" when they were in power.
No matter how savvy they are running their own companies, businessmen don't understand governance very well - those "just get rid of the deadwood" and the business survival instincts that require a profit to be made at all times are not computable with running a country.
One can't just dispose of or "lay off" otherwise law-abiding citizens because there is no profit to investing in their wellbeing as one can with employees in a division where there are no more customers.

(31,261 posts)As far as running government like a business, an insane, insane idea. The two have vastly different objectives. Personally, I see investing in the well being of citizens as an investment against chaos. In a world of chaos, rich people's money will only be as good as the people that they hire to protect them, and why would someone protect a billionaire for a few hundred grand per year among chaos, why not just shoot him or her in the head and take everything? Society and maintaining society prevents chaos, some rich people like the Kochs and Mercers just don't get that reality, if society becomes chaotic without obedience to laws, their money is worthless to them, every cent of it.

Cheeto owns a private jet, why didn't he allow his to be used last weekend for the Parkland families?
He gets free rides on Air Force One, so his jet is sitting idle anyway.

(14 posts)Of all the NFL owners, Kraft has contributed the most $$ to Democratic PACs over the years. When his wife Myra was alive, she was very involved in progressive causes. While I cannot understand Kraft's friendship, or heaven forbid, allegiance to Trump, I do think his gift of the use of the Patriot jet was a genuine humane gesture.

But if it takes this kind of movement to wake up some ultra rich organizations then Ill take the win where it rises. If more teams can do things like this in support for sensible action it can only be good.

Excuse the exclamation, but I haven't cared about football for over 35 years, but now there is a team to root for.
They carry the name "PATRIOT" with honor and raise that term from the muck and slime that it has been drug through by every alt-right nutcase and tea party coward.
