The Second Admendment should be repealed to make way for serious gun control.

You're dreaming. I would like to repeal the second but I'm too pratical to even consider mentioning it.

The evil socialist government will break every other right from the bill of rights if we can't fight back with our weapons.

I support the NRA in its effort to defraud the voters of the USA and think all the 2nd admendment talk is just the trick to do it.

The Second Amendment will not be repealed because too many people on the Left are fickle and undependable voters who can't be bothered to show up at the polls unless they are motivated or excited about the election and if the candidate passes their purity test.
Laws and policies are made, lives are saved or changed as a result of those who choose to participate in our electoral system, flawed and imperfect as it is, and not by those who opt out.
Even when the choice is between only bad or evil, the rational and intelligent person does what they can do to make sure that evil does not prevail. Elections do have consequences, a concept that I don't know why so many on the Left have trouble grasping.

(4,880 posts)"That decision which I remain convinced was wrong and certainly was debatable has provided the N.R.A. with a propaganda weapon of immense power. Overturning that decision via a constitutional amendment to get rid of the Second Amendment would be simple and would do more to weaken the N.R.A.s ability to stymie legislative debate and block constructive gun control legislation than any other available option."

Stevens is getting senile if he thinks there is public support to repeal the 2A. There is not even public support for strict gun control.

Your head is in the sand if you dont see which way public opinion is moving on stricter gun control, and Stevens makes a number of quite lucid points if you care to read the piece. In case you dont:

Its M-A-T-H-that's 22 states right there without considering several other states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Florida, Iowa, Colorado etc where gun rights are strong but sometimes elect Democrats
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.[3]

No embattled cabins or wagon trains. No slave uprisings or other caucasian nightmares...oh, wait, some caucasians still have trouble with anyone who doesn't look like them. Either ADAPT OR DIE OFF you snowflakes. Yes, snowflakes-- white and cold. Righties are the snowiest snowflakes of them all, they all fear somebody or something.
Register the firearm owners with a license, like a driver's license. Give a written test. Test them once on a range. Repeat in 10 years or sooner in case of health or situational issues.

Changes need to be incremental. Guns will NOT go away in this country and culture.
What GOP Judge Stevens did was to take the moderate changes MSD is asking for into a sweeping narrative that the GOP will use to paint Democrats as anti-firearm. MSD has around 75% combined support for their causes. The Republicans will try to pull Democrats into a BINARY decision.
There are probably as many Democrats who own firearms as Republicans, although Republicans seem to be more of the types to hoard various weapons. Anyone who things that Democrats don't own firearms to the degree that Republicans do, are just dreaming. They just don't boast about it.
I'm sure I'll get a lot of people blasting me, but we have to keep it real.
