It's not like they were that useful. I read recently that since they didn't have their clearances, Kelly was limiting their access to data, and I imagine that left them with little to do. Ivanka's job with that huge, West Wing Office she had was limited to looking good and holding her father's hand and telling him how good a job he was doing. Kelly also didn't like how she had unlimited access to him and would just walk into the Oval Office whenever she wanted to, when he was trying to keep him focused, on whatever the task at hand was.
